A Crown Of Fire And Wrath (The Shadow Walkers Saga #5) - Sloane Murphy Page 0,49
it, I do. But I also really don’t want dissent between the five of us, especially when things are finally getting to a point where they’re good.
I climb from the Mustang, and walk around the back of it, waiting for the guys to join me. Colt said he’d meet us here when he texted me this morning, letting me know what time this was happening. I let Fallon know we’d be here too, when she rang me and cussed me out for not seeing her before now, which I totally deserved so I let her yell at me for a good five minutes before I told her I’d see her here.
It doesn’t take long for Colt to show up, and we make our way up the rocky path to where we’re meant to be meeting everyone.
“Remy!” Nasari waves as we reach the group, and I smile at him as Colt starts saying hello to everyone.
“Remy, you better not be hiding from me girl.” Fallon’s drawl hits me and I can’t help but grin, even if she did chew me out earlier. I turn as she jumps on me with a hug. “Girl, I am so glad you’re alive.”
“Me too.” I smile as I hug her back, glad that my friend seems more like her old self. Whatever it is she’s been doing while I’ve been running around like a loon is obviously working. Guilt works its way up my throat about how little I’ve been around for her, especially considering everything that happened to her is basically my fault.
“Mama is looking for you, I think she has some stuff she wants to talk to you about,” she says quietly. I open my mouth to ask her what it’s about and she shakes her head. How cryptic.
“Okay, well we can hang out tomorrow, and if she’s around we can talk? Or you guys can come to the house?”
“Sounds good to me. I miss you.”
“I miss you, too.”
“Okay, now let’s get this show on the road, because your guys look ready to kill things, and well, I don’t want to be here longer than I need to. I’ll be back, got to go help Mama with the portals.” She squeezes my hand before flitting back off to Marie, and I head over to where my guys are standing, their ears being talked off by the elders present. Colt looks almost disappointed as his gaze follows Fallon across the meadow. I guess they’re still having issues, but I swore I wouldn’t meddle. No matter how much I want to.
“Oh thank the fates,” Creek mutters as I reach his side. He takes my hand and smiles down at me.
“Hey guys,” I say to the elders speaking, taking their attention from the guys who look more than a little relieved. “I think Marie and Fallon are opening the portals, so we’re about to get started.”
They each nod and mumble as we move towards where Marie and Fallon are standing. Colt motions at us to stay back a few feet when the portals start opening. It doesn’t matter how many times I see this stuff, it always amazes me. Theoretically, I can create portals, like the one I can create to the Shadow Realm, but I’ve never really tried to create one anywhere other than to or from the realm.
As each of the witches and their heirs arrive, they take similar places in a circle as they did the last time we were here. Once they all arrive, Colt moves the Hunters to stand between the covens, merging the circles. My guys and I stay standing with Fallon and Marie. The Laveaus’ are where my loyalties lie, always. The other witches have done nothing to earn my distrust, but they’ve also not done a ton to earn my trust either.
I miss the mindset I had before I got my memories back. The ability to trust people until they taught me not to is gone. With everything that’s happened, and getting my memories back, it’s just not a part of who I am anymore. It might not be for the better, but it is what it is.
I tune out a little as the witches and the elders start their treaty discussions. I only notice as Roman and Kain chime in, ensuring that their people aren’t left to any detriment from the treaty. The agreement we made before pretty much turned to dust after Archer’s latest awesomeness revealed betrayers in almost all of the factions.
