A Crown Of Fire And Wrath (The Shadow Walkers Saga #5) - Sloane Murphy Page 0,33

to find myself alone. I pull myself up to sit as the door opens and Kain appears, half dressed, and maybe the most casual I’ve ever seen him with just his suit pants and shirt, the sleeves rolled up. Hot damn those forearms. I shake my head, and refocus. He has a tray in his hands, the smell of bacon wafting in the room with him. I can’t stop the grin spreading across my face as he moves towards me, and graces with me a smile of his own.

“Morning precious,” he murmurs as he sets the tray on my lap and kisses my forehead. His gaze run the length of my body, as if making sure that I’m here, and I’m whole. I take his hand and squeeze it, trying to reassure him as best I can.

“Morning,” I sigh happily. “Are you okay?”

The worry in his eyes is obvious, it was there last night, but I guess I’d hoped that after last night, he’d feel better.

“As long as you are okay, mon amour, then I am fine. Nearly losing you like that, for good…” his voice croaks and it’s like a dagger to the heart.

“I’m sorry.”

“It was not your fault. Your brother… I am just glad you’re okay, that you’re here, and that I haven’t lost you for good.”

“Me too,” I tell him softly, and he perches on the bed next to me.

“Now, enough of that. I had to basically battle to the death to be able to keep you to myself for an extra few minutes, so how about you eat your breakfast in peace, compliments of Nonnie, and then we can talk with the others.” He squeezes my hand again before releasing it, and letting me dig in.

He’s not wrong, we need to talk. And I’m not sure they’re all going to exactly like what I have to say, but better that it’s out there.

I groan as the bacon hits my tongue. Damn I missed bacon, real bacon. Some things in Avalon might be better, but bacon isn’t one of them, though I will miss that coffee, unless I can sweet talk Levi into smuggling me some beans.

It doesn’t take me long to eat and freshen up. I sneak back to my own room to get dressed, I really want to wear one of my snarky t-shirts today, but considering the conversation I’m about to have, I pull on a plain black, long sleeved shirt and a pair of jeans, with my boots. I throw on an oversized sweater with the words ‘savage love’ scrawled across it, and braid my hair, which is so long now that even braided it falls to my waist. I leave the closet and find Kain sitting, waiting for me on my bed, now fully dressed, in his trademark black on black suit and tie, not a wrinkle in sight. His eyes practically glow as he looks at me. I will never get bored of him looking at me like that, as if I’m the only thing he needs to survive.

His eyes move to the column of my throat, and my breathing hitches. It’s been a while since he fed properly, last night was barely a touch. I tilt my head exposing my neck for him and he’s in front of me in the blink of an eye. His gaze pierces mine, and I nod softly, giving him permission to take what he needs. He holds me reverently, pulling me towards him before kissing my neck softly, making me sigh. His teeth puncture my skin with no hesitancy, and he groans as my blood spills. I hold onto him to keep myself upright, as pleasure floods my system. I’m wet again in an instant, I clench my thighs together, sighing at the sensations singing through my bloodstream.

His tongue laves at my neck as he licks up the last drops of blood before the puncture wounds heal, and then he kisses me, the taste of me still in his mouth.

“Thank you, mon amour.” His voice is practically a purr, and I feel boneless, but I smile at him, before resting my forehead on his shoulder for a moment while I compose myself. “The others will be waiting.”

I smile again, even though he can’t see me, because yes, I imagine they are. My guys aren’t the most patient, and the way Kain claimed me last night was almost amusing. There was no arguing with him as he stalked from the kitchen with me in his
