A Crown Of Fire And Wrath (The Shadow Walkers Saga #5) - Sloane Murphy Page 0,31

tighter than any of the guys did, and I try not to cry. She peppers my face with kisses as she holds my cheeks and I can’t escape her fussing. “Come, you need to eat. You nearly died, and you nearly took my heart with you Remy girl. Come, come.”

Taking my hand, she pulls me, and in doing so tugs Kain along with us, who is just smiling at me still. The others filter in behind us, no one taking their eyes from me.

We spent the evening together in the kitchen, just talking about everything that happened in Avalon. The boxes we brought back with us are just littered in a corner. I’ve been passed from lap to chair more times than I care to count, but I let them. I know they need this. Need me.

I shut my mind off before we came here, so I could focus on my guys, make sure they were okay, because it might be me that nearly died, but I know that if it were the other way around, I’d be a fucking mess.

They’re all just talking about the loose ends we still have. Including the potential traitor amongst the Lycans, and Lizzie, the rogue witch and her coven. I stay quiet for the most part, just listening to everything they’ve been working on while I’ve been training with Serafina. Here was me thinking most of the stuff we were worried about was done, but no, they were just handling stuff themselves. I don’t have the energy or the want to chastise them for keeping stuff from me yet again, but you better believe that it’s a conversation we’re going to have real soon.

I stifle another yawn, I’m really looking forward to this part of everything ebbing away, though, when I think about it, I haven’t slept in a few days, so maybe I’m due to be tired. I’m too tired to think about it too deeply.

“We should get you to bed, precious,” Kain murmurs. I’m currently in his lap, my head resting on his shoulder. I nod and move to stand, but his arms tighten around me. He loops one arm under my legs, and stands, lifting me effortlessly.

“We still need to talk about this whole Michael thing,” Roman grumbles, looking at me, his jealous and possessive nature very much on show.

“We can talk about that when she’s not exhausted. We’ll see you guys tomorrow,” Kain tells them firmly. Creek and Roman start to protest, but as I lift my head their objections stop. Kain’s face is set, and brokers no argument.

I tap Kain’s chest, and he lets me down. I move to each of my guys, kissing them goodnight, before moving back to Kain’s side. He lifts me again, and I think for a second about objecting, but I can’t find it in me. I think this is more for him, than it is for me, so I allow him to carry me to his room here.

He places me on the edge of the bed, and lifts his t-shirt, his eyes barely leaving me, as if he’s scared I’ll disappear if he does. My breath hitches as I take in the smooth, lean planes of his chest. He really is beautiful. I sigh as he lifts the hem of my sweater and takes it off of me. He looks at me, his eyes darting to my shoulder. I brush over the faint line there, amongst Levi’s mark, trying not to think about what happened.

“Remy…” Kain says, the anguish in his voice as he steps towards me and cups my face in his hands.

“I remember… I remember everything,” I tell him, and his eyes go wide.

“Are you okay?” he asks, his eyes not leaving mine, his gaze so intense, it’s like he can see inside of me. I shake my head a little, and take a deep breath.

“I don’t know who I am right now,” I tell him quietly, my gaze dropping to the floor. He crouches in front of me, and uses his finger to tip my chin up so that I’m looking at him again.

“Remy, it doesn’t matter to me. Any of it. I love you. No matter what you’ve done, what you are. There is nothing in this universe that could change that. You are mine, as I am yours. You’ve been through so very much. We can talk, and I’ll listen to everything you choose to tell me without any judgment, or you can take a minute, and
