Crossroads (Beautiful Biker MC Romance Series) - DD Prince Page 0,72
then the side door shut before he rounded the front of the vehicle and got into the driver’s seat.
“C’mon princess, up here,” he called out and put it into drive and sped away. I scampered up from my spot and squeezed through the space between the two front seats and tripped into the seat, smashing my shoulder against the door.
Oh. There was blood smeared all over the door. I jerked back away from it.
Wrists still bound, I pulled the seatbelt, also bloody, across myself and buckled it and then I chanced a look in the sideview mirror and saw two figures, one on the road and one half in the ditch.
Are they dead? This was my thought, but I didn’t verbalize it. I couldn’t. My mouth was still taped.
“Here.” Fork passed me the bloody knife.
I dropped it and it landed on my foot.
He pulled two cell phones apart and kept the pieces on his lap.
How could I possibly? But, he had to drive. He had to get away in case they weren’t dead. In case they suddenly started shooting.
My eyes darted to the mirror. We were out of sight of them. The road was bending. I whimpered at the sight of the knife on the floor, across my foot.
He pulled over.
He leaned over, grabbed the knife from where it was laying across the top of my foot, and he wiped it on the rug of the van, then pulled it through the tape at my wrists before yanking the tape off.
“There.”
I sat there, staring at the blood on my foot, feeling a mild sting on my wrists where he’d pulled some arm hairs off.
He reached over and ripped the tape off my mouth.
I hissed at the pain.
“Fast was better.” He flicked the tape off his fingertips.
“Ow,” I groaned.
He put the knife on the floor and his hands back to the wheel and pulled back onto the asphalt as he adjusted his seat for more legroom.
I blinked, staring ahead, unseeing. Processing. He pulled down a sideroad and put his forehead to the wheel and blew out a breath.
All I could hear was breathing. My breathing and his breathing.
I was breathing. I was alive.
After a long time of him, seemingly just catching his breath, he lifted his phone from the dash and made a call.
“Prez. She’s fine. We’re good. Yeah. Two. Both down. Yeah. Two secs.”
My dad. He called my dad. Phew; I could let go of the breath I’d been holding.
“Jojo,” he said, passing me the phone.
Relief flooded me.
I put it to my ear and heard a lot of background noise.
I couldn’t talk. I was just so… out of it.
“Joelle?”
I answered with a sob.
“Punkin? You okay?”
It took me a sec, but I finally got out, “Uh. Yeah. D-dad, I’m okay.”
“Fuck. Fuck!” Dad shouted. There was nothing but that background noise for a second as, I guess, Dad calmed himself. “He’ll get you home. Love you, baby.”
I nodded. “Love you.”
“Pass the phone back.” Dad sounded angry. So angry.
“K-kay.”
My tears had dried as soon as I heard my dad’s voice. I passed the phone to Fork.
“Yeah? Right, okay that makes sense, ‘cuz I knew I wasn’t tailed. Yeah, I’ll check that out and call you back. No. We’re in their van and I knew half an hour in where they were takin’ us so I waited for my moment. Yeah. Okay. Who knows how many fuckin’ people know where it is? I got the impression my father’s with ‘em. Yep. Just a hunch, some hints they dropped. Nope, wouldn’t tell me anything, just insisted I was required, and she was coming. They got me to tape her mouth, wrists, and ankles. Frisked me but I snuck my knife into her boot while she was in the bathroom before we left. Yeah. No, not one finger, Prez. Wouldn’t fuckin’ allow it and that’s why they’re both bleedin’ out on the highway. Right. Right. My fuckin’ honor, sir. Yeah. Bye.”
His honor saving me? Again? I scoffed and sniffled. There was a pack of Kleenex on the dash, so I pulled one out.
He got out of the truck and walked around it to the rear.
A minute later he was back.
“They found your family’s place with a tracker they stuck in the wheel well on my truck. Brady found it. There was another on this ride. Tossed it. We’re gettin’ the fuck out of here. Takin’ you home, Jojo.”
I shivered and blew my nose, then covered my face with my hands and let out a couple shuddering
