How ‘bout a family reunion?’ And then he gave me a sick grin and laughed his fuckin’ head off as he walked away with them during the hand-off.”

My blood ran cold.

“Thought Prez was gonna shoot him on the spot. Saw his finger movin’ over the trigger. If it weren’t for Marlena, it woulda happened. Either Paige or Juicy already shared the news about us. And baby, I’m sorry, but you’re locked down until that threat is taken out. I know you’re supposed to start school again in a few days, but…”

I pulled my lips tight. “No, I know. Not gonna have a problem keeping busy. Lots here to keep me busy with the move.” I’d already thought about this. School was important to me but not as important as breathing and not as important as knowing my biker could breathe easier because he knew I was safe.

He pulled me close and put his lips to mine. “Gotta sleep.”

“Yeah.” I squeezed him tight. “I love you, Christian.”

Two Weeks Later

Things had been quiet and still… not one member of The Dominion Brotherhood had let their guard down.

Finally, we got the green light to go to the cabin as a breather because we were all itching to get out of that clubhouse.

Rider had threatened to shut down the salon on Pippa and Jenna and they went crazy, so he settled on reduced hours to daylight only and kept two bikers there at all times.

Ella worked at the dealership and her parents did their thing but kept Beau home from school out of fear, as did Lucy and Sara with their kids.

Christian went to work on a daily basis, and though he worked less than full-time hours it left me worried, but he told me life had to go on and that his job was important to him. Though he said that, he kept me under lock and key between the family businesses and the compound.

Everything was done in the compound as far as phase one went. Us all being there meant that we might have gotten in the construction workers’ way a little, but we also got in there and helped with some of the work.

We weren’t in a hurry to get all the bunkies in or the outdoor recreational areas done, but we all lived there. Even the couples with kids. For now. We all pitched in and helped with the final touches on everything. Having an actual clubhouse was awesome. It was behind gates. It was safer than being above the bar, and we still had easy access to the three family businesses as they were just on the other side of the gates. There was lots of room, too. And we had lots of potlucks, card games, and movie nights like a big, happy family.

Deacon and Ella had pulled their trailer in. Rider and Jenna were staying in Rider’s room. Spencer and Pippa were staying in Spencer’s room. And Dad, Laura, me, and Christian were in Dad’s apartment. Dad made Laura quit the job at Dutchie’s Diner. She was now managing The Roadhouse.

Gianna and Jesse had some big blowup and it was unclear whether they were together or not. She’d apparently gone to Halifax to stay with relatives, though it was top secret and only a select few knew this. I’d tried to get her to talk, texting her, but she only wrote back once to tell me she couldn’t talk but that she was fine.
