enjoy it.
I still had the rest of school ahead and definitely wanted to be a teacher, even if we had babies now and I waited until they were five or six to teach, but I knew we’d make it all work. Even if it wasn’t always easy. Because he was mine and I was his. I chose well. I chose the absolute best man for me. He’d fit with my life and I’d fit with his new and improved life as a Dominion Brotherhood member instead of a Wyld Jackal.
“So, I have an idea,” I told him as the movie finished.
“What’s that?”
“Tomorrow, last day of the rally, we go get our ink together. You get your brotherhood ink and I get a Property of Fork patch.
He moistened his lips with his tongue.
“You can hide your bicep and get it somewhere else. No one has to know you didn’t actually have that Jackals ink.”
He didn’t have fake temporary tattoos with him so once I’d removed the last one, his skin was tattoo-free. He told me he was stoked that he got to marry me without that logo on his body, fake or not.
“There’s a guy from the Reapers that does beautiful ink. We always see him at Sturgis and I’m sure---”
“Naw, baby, I’ll wait.”
“For?”
“Just wanna wait.”
“Then I’ll just get mine,” I said with a shrug.
“Naw.”
“What do you mean naw? I want your name on me.”
“Your body is beautiful just like it is. It doesn’t need my name on it. You got my rings on it. If you don’t have my baby in you already, he or she’ll be growin’ in there soon. I know you’re mine; it’s good enough for me.”
“But I want your name on me,” I told him. “It’s something I want. I want a Property of Fork patch inked on my body.”
“You do that some other time then if it’s that important to you.”
“Why not at the rally? You wanted everyone to know I was yours. All those people looking at that calendar… they can see your name inked on me. What better way to---”
He bit down on his lip and whacked my rump. “You’re gonna find yourself with a pink ass you try and use that calendar bullshit to get what you want from me, woman.”
I smiled. “I’m serious, though.”
“You get that tatt, I’ll get pushed to get my brotherhood tatt and I’m not ready for that.”
“But…”
“When the threat is done, Jojo.”
“But, Christian---”
“I don’t fuckin’ like needles, all right?” he snapped.
I reared back with a jolt at how loudly and aggressively that came at me. I blinked.
He was grinding his teeth, glaring at me.
My mouth opened and then closed, and I tilted my head at him. And then I couldn’t help it. I laughed.
He blew out a breath, shaking his head, then stared at the ceiling.
“My biker. My muscled six foot eight…”
“All right, quit.”
“…badass biker husband who has no fear… is afraid of needles?”
I laughed out instead of said the last few words of that sentence.
“Fuck my life,” he growled, looking away.
“Oh my God.” I cackled.
He grabbed me and lifted me up over his shoulder.
I squealed but then I continued to laugh.
Suddenly we were out of our room and in the courtyard of our motel and splash… he dropped me in the pool! Fully dressed!
I came up sputtering in time to see him stalk back into our room and disappeared behind the door. I laughed my ass off, dripping wet all the way back into our room, passing people who looked at me like I was nuts.
Luckily the door was open an inch, so I wasn’t locked out. I found him sitting on the bed, arms folded across his chest, sulking.
I was still giggling.
He shot me a dirty look.
I went into the bathroom and stripped down to nothing, draping my clothes over the shower bar. I walked back out naked, carrying a towel. His grouchy expression melted clean away and now he was staring at me with interest.
“I’m sorry I laughed at you, baby.” I climbed up onto his lap and squeezed water out of my hair with the towel in my hand. I then tossed it and put my hands to his chest. I was shivering in the AC and it was evident by not just the goosebumps but also the fact that his eyes were on my headlights, which were on high beam.
“I’m a little bit afraid of clowns,” I admitted. “Are you afraid of clowns, too?”
