turned towards the doctor.

Everyone stilled and held their breath. The room quieted to nothing.

“He’s going to pull through.”

Cheers erupted, and I fucking let the tears fall as I hugged Mum and Channa close. I didn’t care. I could let it go because I knew our world would have a tear in it from the loss of Talon Marcus. And there was no way the world or any of us were ready for that.

Epilogue

Channa

After parking, I got out of Stanley’s car and went to the trunk. I pressed the button to open it and pulled out the three long boxes full of treats. With a smile, I made my way into the garage.

“Channa, let me take that off your hands,” Blue said, but I quickly dodged him.

“Not on your life, Blue. The last time you did, I heard you hid the boxes for yourself.”

“Hey, can’t help a guy when it comes to cakes.”

I grinned. “I can. Where is he?”

“No doubt on his way out here now he knows you’ve arrived.”

“How?”

Blue pointed out a couple of cameras. Oh shit…. “Do you mean…? No one saw…?”

“You slipping and falling on your arse only to jump up like a jack-in-the-box and limp to the car? Yep, caught it. Also saw the time you had gum on the bottom of your shoe and nearly fell when you were trying to get it off. Or there was—”

“Blue,” I deadpanned.

“Yeah, honey?”

“Speak no more of it, and spread the word to whoever else saw it, or else I’m telling your women you all want a makeover on the garage.”

He sighed. “Fine. Let me take the boxes anyway. You can follow me to the breakroom.”

“Deal.” I smiled, handing them over. I went to follow him, but then I heard a rumble of a Harley and looked to the street to see it pull into the parking area.

I knew that Harley, and I knew the rider upon it. My belly gave of an excited flutter.

“Darlin’” was called from behind me, and I faced Talon as he made his way to me. Like usual, guilt filled me, and I bit my bottom lip so I didn’t frown because Talon hated when I did that. “You gotta stop bringin’ food here, Channa. You spoil us too much.”

I waved it off. “I like it.”

He stopped beside me. “Darlin’,” he said and stared. I held strong. I wasn’t going to give in, and I didn’t. Talon sighed, wrapping his arms around me in a hug. “You gotta stop stressin’ over it and feelin’ guilty, ’cause there ain’t anythin’ to feel guilty for.” He stepped back and dropped his hands to my shoulders. “You still talkin’ to your doc about it?”

“Yes.”

“Good. She’ll help you through this.”

“It’s been a while, Talon.” I quickly bit my bottom lip so he wouldn’t see it tremble.

“Darlin’, there ain’t no time limit on gettin’ past this. It’ll take however long it will.”

“I’m sorry—”

“I swear to Christ if you tell me sorry one more time for not callin’ me, I’m gonna throttle you. I get it, Channa. I do. Fuck, you know ’cause I’ve told you. I would have done the same if my woman was in danger and they demanded I’d come alone. You just gotta remember I’m alive. Your man is as well, and so are you.” He smiled.

He’d told me that a lot of the times I’d visited the hospital. One day, I might be able to live with the choice I made, but the biggest one I had to get over was the thought that I was supposed to be in prison for what I’d done.

I killed two people. I shot them. It was in self-defence, and if it wasn’t for Violet and Liam, who was a lawyer who helped them out, I would be behind bars. Maybe the guilt had a lot to do with how I thought the world was better without them in it.

I just couldn’t help how I thought.

Still, I knew with the help of the amazing people I surrounded myself with, that one day I would heal. I would be able to go about my day without thinking about it.

“Dad, get your hands off my woman,” Cody called. I glanced over my shoulder, and there went my belly again, the butterflies fluttering to life as my man approached us. He was another reason why I knew I would get past my troubled thoughts because he’d been my rock. My help. My everything. As soon as we knew Talon had pulled through, Cody
