“Enough of this,” Percy bellowed. Cody looked up, blinked, and then shifted his gaze to where Percy pointed the gun, but he couldn’t see around Genny. “Move aside so he can see her.”

She giggled and danced to the side of Cody, resting her hand on his shoulder.

He tensed. “Channa,” he whispered, and then his eyes widened when he realized where the gun was trained.

When I saw the horror evident in his eyes, my tears welled, my bottom lip trembled, and my heart cracked.

“Let her go,” he said softly. His jaw clenched. “Let her the fuck go,” he demanded harshly.

I shook my head. “No.” I smiled sadly. This was my fault. It wouldn’t be me who was going. “Let Cody go.”

Percy scoffed. “Isn’t that sweet.”

“No, it’s not,” Genny snapped. She pointed at me. “You don’t call him Cody. He’s mine. He will always be mine, and I’ll make sure of it.” She laughed and shifted from one foot to another before she bent over and rubbed her cheek against the top of Cody’s head. “After all, it was why I told your daddy where you were. You were getting too close to my man. I took it upon myself to protect him. I knew you weren’t any good for him. So, I looked into you. Asked people about you. Eventually I got to the bottom of it. How you and your mummy ran from him…. That’s just not right. Taking his wife away like that. Of course, when I learned how angry Percy was, I had to help him get to you.”

“And, in turn, you get to keep Cody?” I asked. Genny’s screws had definitely come loose in her head. How did she think she had a chance to keep Cody when all this was done? He wouldn’t want anything to do with her.

“Why the fuck do you want me? We had one night. You sucked me off and that was it. Why me?” Cody demanded. Hearing what they had done nearly had me gagging, but I pushed it back since it was obvious this woman was crazy.

She giggled, kissing him on the cheek. I’d never wanted to rip hair out from the roots before, but there it was. She patted his head. “Oh, baby, I heard you talking one night to Ruin. How you wanted what your daddy has. Someone special who you’d treat like your queen. I knew I was that for you. I just have to get you to see.”

“What’s the fuckin’ plan here? What’s the goal?” Cody asked.

“It’s simple,” Genny said. “You get to come with me and… well, he’ll do whatever he wants with her.” She waved her hand my way.

“And how do you think I’ll come willingly with you?” Cody questioned, and after it, he mouthed to me, “Run.”

I gave a small shake of my head. He glared at me and tried again. “Run.” I narrowed my own gaze. He was a fool if he thought I would leave him to them.

“It’s simple. If you don’t, Percy will kill her.”

I snorted. “He’s going to kill me anyway. You won’t get Cody.”

“Smart girl,” Percy sneered. He moved out from behind Cody and started for me. “I would have done it when you were younger. When she started taking your side. But I didn’t get the chance because she loved you, and it would have broken her.” He shook his head. “I’m not losing my chance again.”

Cody rocked and shifted on the chair. “Don’t fuckin’ touch her. Channa, run. Angel, run, please.” I wanted to tell him I had the situation under control. I wanted to say we would be safe. I’d make sure of it, but I couldn’t because I had yet to make it happen, and all Cody could see were bad things.

“Wait, you promised,” Genny yelled.
