Laughing, I said, “Fair enough. I’m just glad your mum isn’t the same with me. Overprotective in a scary way.”
“Not in a scary way, just overprotective. Else she wouldn’t have shown at your bakery to check you out.”
I grinned. “That’s true.”
“Channa,” he said, but then no more.
“Yes?”
“Gotta ask you somethin’ and need you to be honest.”
My throat dried up because my mind went straight to the thought that I’d done something. My hand tightened on his, and I nodded. “Of course.”
“Shit, it ain’t anythin’ bad. In fact, it could be good, but… I’m fuckin’ this up.” He brought our joined hands up to kiss the back of my hand. “Angel, only if you’re comfortable with it, I wanna stay the night at your place.”
My heart went ka-boom and then swooned.
He was asking me, and he was crazy if he thought I’d say no, because it meant a lot more kissing time. Maybe even a little more.
My stomach swooshed in a whirlwind of butterflies.
Even though I would be nervous, and there was a chance I’d make a fool of myself by swallowing my tongue, I nodded. But he didn’t see. His jaw tensed, and I realized I’d taken too long to answer.
“It’s all good,” he’d added. “I won’t. I’d never want to rush, and I wasn’t even talking about—”
Reaching out, I pressed two fingers to his lips. “Cody, I’d love for you to stay.” Under my fingers, a smile grew. A big one. A satisfied one. “As long as you’re okay with me leaving early to bake?”
“Babe, it’s who you are and what you do. I’m just damn honoured you’d have me in your bed.”
“You’re a damn charmer, Cody Marcus.”
He grinned. “Only with you.”
I doubted it, but I wouldn’t think of our pasts. I wouldn’t linger and worry. He was here with me, and that was all that mattered.
He parked out front of the house, and we got out, meeting at the front of the car, where he took my hand as we shared a smile, causing my heart to flutter. Inside, we were mauled with love and kisses from Coco and Harley. Though Coco was more discreet about it and only mauled us when we gave her some loving.
“Do you want a drink or anything?” I asked, heading for the kitchen.
“I’ll grab a beer, babe, but I can get it.” He wound an arm around my waist and kissed my temple. “I’ll drink it while I play with the dogs out back.” He moved to the refrigerator, took out a beer, and opened it. Since I was still stuck on the one spot, he brushed his lips over my neck as he walked back to the door where he unlocked it and stepped outside, whistling for the dogs. They ran after him, knowing they were about to have fun.

Heck, all I wanted to do was head to bed and get some romance on, but I knew I had to take care of my babies first. Yet, there he was doing it for me. So, what did I do with my time?
Wait… had I shaved my legs?
Oh God, I hadn’t. When I’d showered, I didn’t think they’d needed doing, but they absolutely did. I couldn’t have Cody running his hand up my leg and it feeling like I was grating his skin off. That was if he did run his hand up my leg, but it wasn’t a risk I was willing to take.
Rushing through getting out the dogs some dry food and filling their water bowls, I then raced into my bedroom to grab sleep shorts and a tank top before filing into the bathroom. I trimmed my pubes, praying Cody didn’t walk into the bathroom in that moment while I was bent over with an electric razor trying to make my vagina more appealing. I quickly went over and locked the door before I got back to it. As soon as I was done, I turned on the shower. I had never showered and shaved so quickly in my life, and I cursed at the few cuts I made in my haste. I dressed and stood in front of the mirror. My hair was damp, my face clean of makeup, and I didn’t know if I needed to apply more or not.
“Channa,” Cody called, with a knock to the door.
“Y-Yes?” I squeaked and cleared my throat. “Ah, yes?”
