from Dillon, who wouldn’t meet anyone’s gaze, but swallowed over and over, to Drake, who was staring at Dillon.

“Someone had better say somethin’,” Cody warned.

“With respect, I don’t tattle,” Dillon said, and he finally looked up, but it was to glare at Drake, who snorted in return, crossing his arms over his chest, just like his dad.

Ruby groaned and threw a hand out in front of her. “Drake was being a dick,” she repeated. “Saying things like I had a heap of guys interested in me, that Dillon wasn’t anything special, just like I’m not. Told Dillon I’d probably have a new guy in a week because I get bored. Dillon didn’t like it—not that I would. I’m not like that.”

“I know you’re not,” Dillon muttered. “That’s why I got angry.”

Ruby nodded and took Dillon’s hand in hers. Ruby explained, “Dillon punched Drake when he wouldn’t shut up. Drake didn’t get the hint, said more, and Dillon hit him again.”

Zara looked up at Talon; so did I. He studied the three of them before he nodded. “Drake, watch what you say.”

Drake smirked. “You got it, Dad.”

Was this planned? Talon wouldn’t have his son test Dillon, would he? I glanced up at Cody and found him fighting a grin. Heck, maybe he had.

Zara cleared her throat and shot Talon a scowl before asking, “Does anyone need ice?”

“Yeah, I do,” Drake said, still smiling.

“I’m good,” Dillon said.

“It’s always the quiet ones you have to keep an eye on,” Cody commented and looked down at me.

“What does that mean? I’m not quiet. I don’t….” When I caught everyone looking at me, grinning, I said, “Forget about it.” There was no point arguing. If they wanted to think I was quiet and a badarse underneath like Dillon, then they could. Still, I couldn’t help but be proud of Ruby’s guy.

Cody chuckled. “We’re gonna head off,” he announced suddenly.

We were? “We are?”

“Yep,” he said, and when his eyes dropped down to me, I caught their look, and it said he wanted to kiss me. It was definitely a good time to go because I was all for more kissing. His grin was sinful. “Say goodbye.”

“Um, goodbye.” I waved lamely, not looking away from him.

It was Talon’s deep chuckle that had my cheeks burning and turning back to the room. I rushed forward so I didn’t die of humiliation and hugged Zara. I had a feeling they guessed as I had what Cody’s intentions were.

“Thank you for dinner,” I told her.

“Thank you for coming. We’ll talk soon.”

“I’d love that.”

“Bakery day,” Drake shouted with a whoop.

“Let’s get you some ice,” Zara said, gripping the back of his neck and pulling him out of the room.

“Later, beautiful,” he called.

“Bye, Drake.”

Ruby moved forward and gave me a hug. “Thanks for your help tonight.”

“Any time,” I told her.

Dillon nodded at me with a small smile. “It was nice meeting you,” he said.

“You too. I hope you’ll come to the bakery.” He nodded again before Ruby pulled him back over towards the couch where the television sat on the wall.

Facing Talon, I was at a loss on what to do. He was Cody’s father, a biker, and a little intimidating. Did I pat him on the arm and say “see ya”? Or was I supposed to hug him like I did Zara?

In the end, I moved towards him and gave him a slap on the arm with a kiss on the cheek while I blushed and said, “Thank you for not putting fear in me for dating Cody.”

He stared me down, and I backed up a step. “Wait, you’re dating my son?”

What the heck?

Cody laughed and took my hand. “Don’t scare her, Dad.”

“Darlin’, you got nothin’ to worry about. I’ve seen you kick arse. I know I have to watch what I do and say when it comes to you.”

Okay, I puffed up with a little pride over that. “Well… good.”

Both men laughed, and it was my turn to lead Cody out by his hand, so I didn’t say or do anything else to have Talon think differently.

In the car, I asked, “Do you think Dillon will survive your family?”

Cody snorted, reaching for my hand to hold on my thigh. “I think he may look shy, but there’s something hiding underneath. Something that’d kick Drake’s arse in his own house, even with Mum and Dad there. He can handle it.”

I hoped he could. “They’re sweet together,” I commented.

“Angel, I don’t want to think about how sweet my sister is with a
