Coyote (Hawks MC Next Generation #1) - Lila Rose Page 0,6

I called out, deciding it was too late to turn back now.

“Mind your business, bitch, and go inside,” the one holding the gun, which was now at his side, snarled. Coco and Harley growled behind me.

Even though my body shook and fear twisted inside me, I stood my ground. “No. Go before the cops get here.” Please buy my story, please.

“Sure, bitch, we’ll leave.” He nodded towards the man on the ground, and two of the four minions moved to pick him up.

“Stop! Leave him.”

“Be very fucking careful, bitch,” the gunman demanded. They hauled the man, who groaned, to his feet. I couldn’t let them take him. I couldn’t let this happen right in front of me. They were going to kill him.

I shifted, and the gun got trained on me. My dogs went crazy growling and snarling. “Leave him,” I said, ignoring the shake in my voice. They didn’t listen. They laughed and started for the four-wheel drive parked behind the downed bike.

Shit, shit, shit, I chanted in my head. I didn’t want to risk them. Terror clutched my chest as I reached back slowly and opened the wire door.

Tears filled my eyes as I said the only word I needed, “Attack.”

My beautiful beasts leapt from inside the house and raced down the steps, flying over the fence. My gut clenched as a shot was fired, then another, and I wanted to throw up, but I followed after them. They had my back and I had theirs. Harley dove at the man with the gun; his jaw latched onto the man’s arm and clamped down. Coco went for one of the men holding the injured one, snapping at his ankle. He cursed and shifted his leg back and forth, but my girl held on. The man dealing with Harley howled in pain and tried to hit him off with his free hand.

I acted. I did it for my boy and girl. I did it for me because I couldn’t stand to see my babies being hurt. With fury icing through me, I punched him in the face. It stunned him enough the gun dropped to the ground, but before I could pick it up, I heard Coco cry out in pain. Immediately I spat, “Move and he’ll bite through your arm. Hold him, Harley.” I caught the guy’s wince when Harley tightened his hold.

I spun, taking in the scene within seconds. They’d dropped the injured guy, and the other one was trying to help the man Coco had, laying his foot into my girl.

Seeing red, I flew at him with a flying sidekick. He dropped to the ground, and I moved on to the one Coco still had in her jaws. Hit after hit, I punched into his face, his chest. The guy staggered back, blood spraying from his nose, his lip splitting. It was clear none of them expected I would know how to defend myself and my dogs.

“Coco, back,” I ordered. She listened straight away, and I knocked the man on his arse with a roundhouse kick to the side of the face. Panting, I moved back over to the gun and picked it up.

“Call it off,” the man Harley still held begged.

“Will you leave?”

“Yes, fuck.”

“Harley, Coco, come,” I clipped, holding the gun at my side. If it came down to it, I would use it…. At least, I would try to. I didn’t know how to use a gun, but I felt like I needed to.

They all moved to the car, holding a part of their bodies. Before the gunman got into the vehicle, he glanced back at me standing with my two dogs at my side. I didn’t like the look but hoped I’d proved I could handle myself because I didn’t want to see him again. Any of them.

As soon as he was in the car, it took off, fishtailing down the road, and it was only then I let myself relax a little. Tension pressed back into me when my babies started to growl. I glanced down at them and then to where their eyes were pinned.

The injured man had gained consciousness and had somehow pulled himself over to the footpath opposite my house and leaned up against the fence there.

His chin tipped up. “Glad I woke enough to see you kick their arses.”

“Coco, Harley, quit it,” I said calmly, and they did. Harley’s tail started wagging when he knew I wasn’t completely worried. What helped was that I knew the guy would
