into the back room.

Denise was smiling so damn wide I was surprised her face didn’t crack.

“I’m sorry,” Channa said, bringing my attention down to her.

“What for, angel?”

“For that episode.”

“Babe.” I smirked. “You can’t help you’re a wanted woman. Men just gotta know you’re taken now.” Dipping down, I brushed my mouth over hers. “I’ve taken up enough of your time at work, and I gotta get back to finish shit before dinner.”

Channa groaned, her nose screwed up from it. “Don’t remind me.”

“Seriously, angel, if you’re not comfortable, we can cancel.” She opened her mouth to probably tell me no because she was such a sweetheart, but I kissed her nose, and her lips snapped shut. “Just think about it for the rest of the day and call me later, yeah?”

She nodded. “Okay.”

Looking around at the customers, I dropped my hands from her and announced, “Sorry about the disruption. I’d like to shout you for a coffee and cake.”

“Boy,” an older woman said, “don’t you dare. This was the most action we get.”

Channa whispered in my ear, “They’re from the retirement village down the road.”

“Damn right it was,” another lady said. “You picked right, Channa.”

“Thank you, Mrs Smith.”

“Appreciate it, ladies. You all have a good day.”

A few called out to me, but I turned to Channa, and with a final quick kiss to the corner of her mouth, I made my way towards the door. Glancing back, I caught her watching my arse. She lifted her gaze, saw me grinning, and blushed.

“Later, angel.”

“Later, Cody.”

If Channa did decide to come to dinner, she’d be nervous. I hoped I’d make her comfortable enough to get to know my family. I wanted them to know her and who she was. Because she was something special.

Chapter Sixteen

Channa

Earlier I called Cody saying I wanted to go to dinner, but now I wished I could eat those words. Or rewind time. And all because I couldn’t settle. Even my babies looked at me strangely when I’d paced around my house, fretting about what to wear and if I’d brought the right desserts. What happened if they didn’t like Mars Bar cookies or mud cake? Then I would look like a fool, and I’d try to eat them all so they didn’t feel guilty.

Cody’s hand slid to my knee, and I realized I was bouncing it. “Angel, you’ll be fine.”

“Uh-huh,” I mumbled, biting at my thumbnail for something to do. My belly was ready to revolt the coffee and sandwich I’d had for lunch. I turned to Cody in the driver seat. “You would know. Does your family like Mars Bar cookies and mud cake? Because if they don’t, that’s okay. It means you’ll have to let me eat them all so they don’t feel bad for me bringing something terrible.”

“Babe—”

I straightened. “Wait, do you even like cookies and mud cake?”

“Channa.” He chuckled, squeezing my knee. “Can’t say I’ve ever met anyone who doesn’t like cookies and mud cake. Everyone’s gonna love it. If they don’t, I’ve got your back, babe. I’ll eat the damn lot myself.”

My body warmed. Cody Marcus was incredible.

I took his hand in mine. “You’re amazing, you know that, right?”

He grinned. “I do now, and right back at ya, angel. Not every woman would worry about the dessert they bring for dinner with her man’s parents.”

I liked the sound of hearing Cody saying he was my man.

“What are you smilin’ about?”

“That even though how we haven’t kissed kissed, you still call yourself my man. What happens if I’m terrible at it? Heck, you could be a snooze in the kissing department.”

His hand shot across me to hold me back in the seat as he slammed on the brakes and pulled over to the side of the road. In the next second, my seat belt was undone and I was hauled over the centre console and placed on his lap.

“Cody,” I gasped. “W-What are you doing?”

“Proving we’re both good at kissin’,” he said and cupped the side of my face. He gently nudged the tip of my nose with his before touching his lips to mine in a brief kiss. My heart hammered in my chest. If it kept up, I wouldn’t be surprised if I passed out.

I slid my hand up to the side of his neck and gripped as he dipped back in to scrape his teeth over my plump bottom lip. A whimper escaped me. My nipples hardened and my clit pulsed. I shifted a little, and Cody hissed out a breath
