time.

“I’m not that perverted,” Julian whined.

Both Mum and I laughed.

Julian grinned. “Okay, maybe I am.” Julian walked around the table and drew Channa from my arm into his. “Now, my sweet scone, I won’t get to see you tonight. We have plans to see a movie. So, I wish you all the luck in the world.”

“Luck? I’ll need luck?” Channa blurted.

I pushed Julian back and put my hands on Channa’s shoulders. “He’s teasin’ again. You’ll get used to it.”

“Oh, okay.” But she didn’t sound sure.

I tugged her back, so her body hit my chest, and wrapped my arms around her chest. “Relax, babe,” I whispered into her ear and felt her suck in a deep breath.

She nodded. “I look forward to dinner,” she said to Mum. “Please, will you let me bring dessert?”

Mum smiled. “I would love that. Thank you.” She reached out and took Channa’s hand. “I’ll see you tonight. Six.”

“You will.”

They said a quick goodbye and left. It was close to lunch, so I knew I had to get out of there. Channa turned in my arms, her hands going to my waist. I liked her touch. Liked it a fucking lot. I also liked the way she stared up at me—shy and sweet.

“Dinner, hey?” I said with a smirk.

“Looks like I’ll be doing it sooner than later.”

“You don’t have to. Promise no one will be mad.”

She laughed. “How can I say no when it looks like Ruby might need an extra pair of hands to keep you Marcus men on track?”

Frowning, I told her, “That little punk had better treat her right.”

Channa smiled. “It’s cute how protective you are of her.”

I heard the door open behind me and ignored it. “You think I’m cute?”

“Very.”

I hummed under my breath. “That’s good to know. Now, how embarrassed would you get if I kissed you here and now?”

Her cheeks reddened. “Maybe a little, but I wouldn’t mind.”

Grinning, I slowly lowered my head but stopped when I heard yelled, “Are you fucking kidding me?”

Turning, I saw that fucking meathead who wanted in Channa’s pants standing inside the door. He stomped towards us with a pissed-off look on his face. I tensed. My hands fisted at my sides.

“You have got to be joking, Channa. This fool, this fucking piece of trash? You’re picking him over me?”

I went to open my mouth, but before I did, my tiny woman moved in front of me. Me. “Don’t you dare talk about Cody that way.”

Meathead waved a hand my way. “He’s a biker, Channa. An outlaw.”

“He’s a good man,” Channa defended.

“Bullshit, he’s into illegal shit all the time. Hell, he’s probably got women on the side while he gets his sugar from you.”

Channa reached out and slapped the fucker. Meathead’s hand shot out. I didn’t know if he was going to hit her or just try and get her away from me. But I wouldn’t have him touching her. I flicked my hand out, grabbing his wrist. “Don’t fuckin’ touch her.”

He glared. “I wasn’t going to hurt her.”

My hold tightened. “I don’t give two shits. You never reach for my woman.”

He snorted and tried to shake my hold off. It didn’t happen. “Fucking have her. She’s nothing but—”

I pulled him to me. Our noses near touched, and I growled low, “Say whatever you want about me. I couldn’t care, you pissant motherfucker. But never say anythin’ about Channa. Never. You wanna try me? Go ahead. But I’ll drag you the fuck outside and beat the shit outta you.”

He snorted, but it quickly changed to a small groan when I tightened my hold on his wrist more.

“Try me,” I snarled, staring into his eyes.

He stayed silent for a beat before shaking his arm again. “Let go and I’ll get the fuck out of here.”

I loosened my hold, and it was lucky he took a step back. “Good choice.”

“Whatever,” he bit out. He looked to Channa. “You’ll get hurt.”

“No, I won’t,” she said clearly as she moved into my side and wound her arm around my waist. I rested mine across her shoulders, grinning at the dumb cunt.

He shook his head with a scowl on his thick head and turned, walking out of the bakery. It’d better be the last time Channa ever saw him.

I brought her around, so we faced each other. Clapping started, and I snorted when I spotted Stanley over the counter doing it. “That’s what I’m talking about.” He looked to Channa. “You picked well, kid.” With that, he walked through the doors
