getting hurt. They’re with a different woman every night.”

Thinning my lips, I didn’t like the way he spoke about Cody like that. He didn’t know him. Then again, I didn’t either, and Bryson could be right, but it wasn’t for either of us to speculate.

“It’s none of our business what he does or who. I have to get going for a delivery. I hope… I want us to be friends, Bryson, like we were, but I’d prefer you not to talk about a person you don’t know because… well, Coyote is my friend also.”

His brows dipped and he clenched his jaw. “I’ll talk to you soon” was all he said before he walked from the bakery.

“Hey, your coffee,” Denise called, but Bryson didn’t stop. “What was that about?” she asked me as I picked up the boxes.

“He asked me out. I said no. He warned me off Cody. I told him there was nothing there and asked to be friends if he didn’t speak of Cody in a way I didn’t like.”

She whistled. “Guess we’ll see if he comes back.”

I hummed under my breath. “I’ll be back as soon as I can,” I told her.

“No problem.”

As I walked through the doors out the back, Stanley held the box of cupcakes. “I’ll help you to the car.”

“Thanks, Stanley.”

Outside, after Stanley placed the box in the trunk, he straightened and said, “It was good you put that meathead in his place.”

I sighed. “Stanley, don’t be mean and call Bryson that.”

He shrugged. “Coyote’s better for you.”

Oh my God, was he seriously giving me dating advice? “Stanley—”

“Nope, that’s all I wanted to say. Get moving before the pies and shit cool. Not that they would. It’s hot as hell out here. See you when you get back.” He grinned, and it seemed a little evil. He turned on his feet and made his way back inside.

Groaning, I swiped a hand over my face. Already I wanted the day to be over. In fact, I couldn’t wait to be home, lazing on the couch with a beer, snacks, and a movie from the eighties. That sounded like heaven.

The drive took me a little longer than I thought it would. What didn’t help was the roadworks on the route I took. A few curse words slipped past my lips. A large car park was attached to the Harley building, which was handy. Another plus was that it wasn’t so busy I missed out on a spot. At the trunk, I popped it open before reaching up and tightening my ponytail. A few stray red strands blew across my face as I made my way towards the large two-storey building.

The automatic front doors swished open, and I stepped into the air conditioning. Right in front of me was a large, curved desk where at least four registers sat. A male employee smiled at me when he looked away from the female employee beside him. Both wore CM Rides work T-shirts.

“Hey, welcome to CM Rides. Can I help you with anything?” the guy asked.

“I have a delivery from Bakery Bliss for the owner,” I told him.

His brows shot up to nearly meet his hairline of messy brown locks. “Channa?” he asked.

“Yes,” I said hesitantly.

“Hey, I’m Cowboy. I saw you the other night when the car crash happened. I’m a member of the Hawks MC.”

Oh….

“Um, hi?” I offered.

The woman said, “Hi, I’m Clary. I’m just here filling in for the day. If you just wait a moment, I’ll call the owner down.”

Strange. I didn’t really need all those details.

“No, it’s okay. I just have to drop these off. He’s paid already over the phone.” At least Denise had told me it was a man who owned the store. I placed the boxes on the desk and took a step back.

“Wait a moment, I’m sure the owner would like to thank you,” Clary said with a friendly smile.

“I’m sure he’s busy, plus I have to get back to the bakery—”

“Channa?” came from behind me. Turning, I spotted Texas just inside the doors. With a wide smile and arms open, he walked right up to me and enveloped me into a warm hug. “Been meanin’ to come see you,” he said into my hair.

“That’s okay…. Um, you’ve healed well.” Even in the two weeks since I’d seen him, the bruises had faded a lot on his face. “How’s the ribs though?” I asked, stepping back from him.

“A lot better, thank fuck.” He curled an arm around my shoulders and led me
