for protecting her. Ruin is allowed to accompany us.”

“Ruin?” Talon called.

“I’ll follow behind,” he said.

“Keep us posted,” Talon ordered.

“You got it, Prez.” And with a pat to my back, Ruin moved off to his ride.

Talon lifted his hand and waved. The gates opened slowly. Wolf stayed where he was, and then Talon confirmed, “Nothin’ comes back to bite us on the arse with whatever happens to your guy?”

Wolf nodded. “Nothing.” His hand reached out. “Mimi?”

Mimi smiled softly up at Talon as she pressed her hand on his arm. “Thank you.”

“Darlin’, don’t do anythin’ rash. Let us know what’s goin’ down, yeah?”

“I will, Mr Marcus.”

He shook his head. “Told you a million times, call me Talon.”

She grinned and moved over to her brother’s side. Ruin’s ride roared to life, and we all watched Wolf lead Mimi, with a hand to her back, towards his car.

“Safe to only have Ruin go with him?” Stoke asked. He was probably itching to follow and make sure his son would stay safe.

Talon turned to him. “Do you believe this Wolf guy?”

Stoke’s jaw clenched. “Fuck. Yeah, I do.” He ran a hand over his head. “If he was lookin’ for trouble, he would have come guns ablazin’. He would have fought for his men. The only thing he gave a shit about was his sister.”

“That’s exactly what I got as well.” He tapped Stoke on the arm. “Know it’s hard to see them take charge of shit.” Talon glanced at me and away. “But hell, they’ll be taking over for us soon enough.”

I snorted. “Nothin’ will keep you away from here, old man.”

The brothers chuckled. Talon grinned. “Besides your mum.”

“Well, yeah.” I left the “duh” part off. “We headin’ in to find out why this fucker has a hard-on for Hawks?”

“We are. Then you’re gettin’ home, and I mean home, so we can keep an eye on you for the night.”

“Talon—”

“Concussion, boy. You’re lucky your mum’s not here wrappin’ you in cotton wool.”

Blue laughed. “Give her time.”

Wait, why wasn’t she here hounding me? I whistled. “You haven’t told her?”

The brothers chuckled, knowing how much shit Talon was about to get himself in.

“You wanna shut up and help deal with this cunt or do I ring your mum now?”

“I’ll be fuckin’ helpin’.”

Talon grinned and hooked his arm around my shoulders. “Thought that’d be the case.” We all started to head back in. Talon leaned in. “You doin’ okay?”

I smirked. I knew it wouldn’t take him long to ask quietly. “Headache and a few pains, but I’ll be fine. Want to get my hands on this guy.”

He nodded. “Can’t say I blame you. Now… about you and this bakery woman.”

“Nothin’s goin’ on.”

“Coyote.”

The brothers had moved ahead, so I said, “Dad. Leave it.”

He glanced at me, grinning like an idiot. “All right, I’ll leave it after I say one last thing. When you know the right woman for you, don’t leave it too long.”

Jesus. I didn’t know shit except for the fact that I wanted to find out how she knew my real name.

Chapter Eight

Channa

All day nerves ate at me like fleas did dogs. I kept making mistakes and dropping things each time I heard the door open. I just wanted the day to end, but the lunch rush had only just finished, and I still had about an hour of things to do before I could get out of here.

Maybe Cody wouldn’t even show. Maybe he was just being nice and wanted to check on me. Maybe if he did arrive before I left, I could sneak out the back door and run home.

Wait, I couldn’t go home. He knew where I lived. But I had to go home because Stanley had dropped off my babies there.

“Thank you,” I said to the customer after I handed over the change. With a smile, she left the bakery, and I could already feel the heat of a stare on me. I was just glad it wasn’t the one I didn’t want. Though, this one I could do without as well.

Sighing, I glanced to the side and spotted Denise wiping down the coffee machine while she stared at me. She’d been doing it all day. It was sweet she was worried, but no matter how many times I said I was okay, even though my body still ached like a stripper’s would after a hard night, she didn’t believe me.

“I’m okay,” I told her before she asked.

“Honey, I know I’ve said this, but you were in a car accident yesterday. You
