Coyote (Hawks MC Next Generation #1) - Lila Rose Page 0,19

at all times. Same as the shop and even her house when she’s not there. Once things are sorted and we know she’s in the clear, things’ll go back to the way they were for you all.”

He nodded and his hand came out. I took it when he said, “Name’s Stanley Penbrook.”

“Coyote, and this is Ruin. Make sure whoever you see around wears our patch.”

“I will. Better get back in before she knows I’m missing or I’ll get my arse chewed.” With that, he turned and walked back down the side of the building.

“Ruin, Coyote” was called from across the road.

Killer and Vicious stood just outside a vehicle beside our rides. They were there to take over our shift. For some reason, maybe it was because I felt I owed Channa, I wanted to stay around. However, I knew it wouldn’t be worth it. I needed to check on my business, get some rest, and take another shift.

“Hey,” Ruin called, a smirk playing on his lips, and I knew he was going to give his brother-in-law shit.

“Killer, Vicious, how’s the tribe?” I asked before Ruin could start.

Vicious snorted. “I only have one, and she’s well.” Vicious moved back to town with his old lady—Ruin’s sister, Nary, about a month ago. Vicious was helping his woman open up a shelter for women in town. I wasn’t sure if they’d stick around after it, but it was good to have them around. Even if they hadn’t lived far when they were in Caroline Springs.

“Mine are good,” Killer said. Killer was usually straight-faced and tight-lipped, but when it came to his twins, he liked to talk about them. His old lady, Ivy, or Chatter as we called her, owned a café in town. Not that she worked there much. Since they had the twins, both boys, they kept her ran off her feet instead. Killer had his own construction company with Stoke, Ruin’s dad, but they still helped out everywhere they could in the club. Killer was also the enforcer for the Hawks MC.

“You better be treating my sister right, Vicious,” Ruin taunted.

“Fuck off, Ruin.”

Ruin grinned, shaking his head. “You know, she was just tellin’ me the other day she wasn’t happy in marriage—”

Vicious tagged the front of Ruin’s tee and was in his face. “Another word, and I’ll tell her about that woman you left crying at the compound.”

Ruin’s mouth snapped shut. He shoved Vicious off, who was now smirking. “It wasn’t like that. The woman thought there was something between us when there wasn’t.”

Vicious shrugged. “Whatever.”

Moving on, I said, “Talon filled you in, but things have just changed.” I told them what Stanley had said.

Killer nodded. “We’ll follow behind them, and when he leaves his place, we’ll stay to keep an eye on her.”

“We’ll head to the compound before we split to do our own shit and let Talon know someone will have to patrol by her house every hour.”

Killer sighed. “Fuckin’ sucks we’re back to patrollin’ regularly, all because of these cunts.”

I nodded. “Agreed. Let’s damn hope they’re smart enough to take a meet with us.”

“So far Talon hasn’t had any luck,” Killer said.

“Fuck,” Ruin barked.

“You two head off, get some rest,” Vicious said.

Yeah, we’d already been up the night before when Ruin got the call from Channa. I was damn tired, yet I felt a tug towards the bakery. In a way, I wanted to stay, wanted to at least inform Channa we were going.

But I didn’t.

There was no point in getting unnecessarily involved.

Ruin and I walked through the compound and greeted brothers on the way to the back office where I knew Dad would be. Ruin knocked on the door and when we heard Talon, who I pointedly addressed by his name rather than Dad when at the club, on the other side order, “Enter,” Ruin opened the door and stepped in.

“Wildcat, how you doin’?” Ruin said, walking to my mum with his arms open.

“Touch her and die, Ruin,” Talon snarled.

Mum laughed, probably thinking he didn’t mean it when he actually did.

“I’m good, Ruin.” She smiled, and then it grew when she saw me standing in the doorway. “Cody,” she called and started for me, wrapping me up in a tight hug. Mum refused to call me Coyote, even though it was Ruby, my sister, who was a twin with Drake, who’d come up with it. When she was young and said my name, it always sounded like she was saying Coyote, and when Maya informed the family
