Coyote (Hawks MC Next Generation #1) - Lila Rose Page 0,18

got along, but she kept harping at me to take her for a ride on the bike. We were dating, but I saved that spot for the one woman I knew I’d spend the rest of my life with. She was probably right when she said I’d doomed our relationship from the start because I refused to let her ride on the back, already knowing she wasn’t a keeper. I’d felt like a dick for hurting her, but I couldn’t help it. I’d known she wasn’t the one, but I still enjoyed her company enough to keep her around.

Fuck me, I sounded like a damn bastard.

Though, she wasn’t too upset when she slipped into a brother’s bed the weekend after I broke it off.

“Are you interested?” he asked again.

Raising a brow, I questioned, “Why you askin’? Are you?”

“Maybe.”

I clenched my jaw to stop myself from frowning. Why did I care who Channa dated? I didn’t. Shit, I’d only met her a few hours ago. Yeah, she seemed like an all right kind of woman, but it seemed like I’d only just got rid of Anna. Plus, I’d gone and stuffed things up by having a club bunny suck me off one night when I was tanked. Since then, the bitch Genny wouldn’t leave me alone. She thought I’d wanted more from her, and she’d been wrong. Now I had my own damn stalker.

Women were trouble, and I wasn’t in the mood to add more trouble to my life.

Glancing away, I pulled apart my jaw and said, “Go for it.” Those words tasted sour in my mouth. I ignored it though.

Ruin hummed under his breath, waiting for me to react. I didn’t. He could think what he wanted.

My gaze caught movement down the side of the bakery. A man who looked in his sixties stopped at the corner of the building and waved us over. He’d been one of the two inside speaking to Channa.

Ruin and I shared an amused glance before heading over. When we stopped in front of the man, he dropped his hands to his hips and asked, “What are you going to do about the situation with Channa?”

“What do you know?” Ruin asked.

“That she dropped into your shit for helping a guy out. Now it could come back and bite her on the arse.” He ground his teeth together, then sucked in a deep breath through his nose. “I’ve got her moving in with me. I have better security and enough weapons to protect her. I’ll let the Hawks MC do drive-bys, but I have her back while she’s in my house.”

Well shit, what could we say to that? We were comfortable that he knew what happened, and Dad could hate it, but if this guy wanted to protect a woman who meant something to him, we wouldn’t say no.

“Are you her dad?”

“No. That piece of shit—” He shook his head. “No, I’m not. But the other woman who works with us, Denise, we see Channa as our family. So if anything does happen, I’ll bring hell down on you all.”

I stilled. I got where he was coming from, but still.

“We understand your concern, but take care who you’re talkin’ to like that, old man. We’d never want to risk anyone or have anyone in our business, but if Channa hadn’t helped us out, a brother would be dead. We have her back in every damn way so that the shit doesn’t land on her.”

He grunted and eyed us some more. “Good,” he stated, and after that, he rattled off his address. “She works from three in the morning to two in the afternoon, so she’ll be here. Then at my place the rest of the time. She works hard so she won’t mind just heading back to rest after. She’ll be here on her own until Denise and I come in. I usually stick around until four, finishing some things, but today I’ll take her to her place to pack and then to mine to settle her in before coming back to finish what I need to. Denise is here on her own to close at six. Do we need to worry about her?”

“No. I’ll get someone here just in case. Someone will pick Channa up at three in the morning to bring her to work. They’ll stay in the shop until someone else is in there with her. Another brother will take her home at two and stay there until you’re back. She’ll be covered
