Coyote (Hawks MC Next Generation #1) - Lila Rose Page 0,12

you… would any of you, I mean you and your mates, want a drink or something?”

“Nah, we’ll be all right.” I crouched and clicked my fingers.

The dogs looked to Channa. She smiled softly at them. “It’s okay,” she said.

Their tails swished back and forth as they slowly approached me, but then one of them jumped sideways and back again, overexcited. Chuckling, I curled my fingers through their fur at their necks and ran them down their backs. I got licks to the face for it.

“Harley,” Channa groaned. “Sorry, he gets very excited.”

Grinning, I nodded. “I can tell. I like his name. What was hers again?”

“Coco.”

“Coco,” I said, and her tail swiped the floor as she sat in front of me. Harley didn’t like that though. He pushed in closer and licked my neck, making me laugh. I glanced up at Channa, her eyes warm until she saw me looking and went back to folding already folded clothes.

“Coyote?” Ruin called, coming around the corner. He chuckled. “Sorry to interrupt, since I see you’re finally gettin’ some lovin’ off someone.”

Rolling my eyes, I bit out, “Fuck off.”

“They’re gettin’ Texas back to the compound.”

With a final pat, I straightened and nodded. I started for the doorway, glancing back to say, “Comin’?”

She jumped and nodded, shifting around the table to follow us. In the living room, Dodge helped Texas from the couch, and I noticed Maya was already gone. She was probably on the way to the compound and meeting them there. I’d find out later just how bad Texas’s injuries were.

“Channa.” Talon caught her attention as he moved closer.

“Yep?” she squeaked. Clearing her throat, she added, “Yes?”

“We’re concerned those guys will want to come back in the area, so the brothers of Hawks will be keeping a lookout.”

I froze for a moment. Her eyes then widened in fear. She hadn’t thought of the possibility of them returning. She blinked and shook her head. “I’m sure they won’t—”

“We’re keepin’ an eye out.” He stared.

“Okay,” she whispered. Glancing down to her dogs, it was obvious she was thinking of them and not herself.

“Honey,” Texas called, and a stab of agitation gripped me with his easiness with her. As soon as he had her eyes, he smiled. “Thanks for savin’ my life.”

“I didn’t—”

“You did. I owe you one.”

She shook her head, her hands landing on the dogs’ heads, as if they comforted her with a touch. “No, you don’t.”

“I do. So if you need anythin’ at any time, you call, yeah?”

Her lips thinned and she nodded, but I was sure she was just agreeing to get him gone.

Texas chuckled. “You’re only agreein’ now ’cause you don’t have my number.”

Her shoulders slumped at being figured out. I glanced away, grinning. I wasn’t the only one.

“How about I give it to her before you fall on your face?” I asked.

“Thanks, Coyote. See ya, honey,” Texas called.

Once they were out the door, Talon turned back to Channa. “Coyote and Ruin are on you today—”

She snorted, then giggled and mumbled, “That’s what she said.” She blanched, her hand shot up and covered her mouth before she dropped it and shook her hands out. She cleared her throat and tipped her chin up, even when she was blushing. “I’m sorry, please continue.”

Ruin hooted out a laugh, while Talon’s lips twitched, and I grinned.

The redness spread down her neck, but she didn’t look away from us.

Yeah, she was definitely cute.

“Right. As I said, Coyote and Ruin have your back today when you go to your shop.”

“What do you mean by having my back exactly? Like, from afar?”

“No.”

“From outside the shop? Not that I think anyone needs to go to the shop. Those douches don’t know I work there.” She let out a huff of annoyance and put her hands on her hips. “I’m going to have to put my foot down. They won’t come for me—”

“Can you guarantee it?” Talon asked.

She paused, biting her bottom lip. After she shrugged, she said, “I’m not 100 percent, but I’m a small inconvenience in their life. I’m sure they’ll forget about me. Besides, the shop always has people around it during the day, and I can take care of myself, plus I have Coco and Harley to help me here.”

“What happens if they do come back and bring more with them?” It was a low blow, but I had to say it because I knew she cared about her dogs more than herself. “Are you willin’ to risk Coco and Harley because you’re being stubborn?”
