with my gem. I lead her back upstairs to my room, and I pull back the covers. She crawls in, and within two minutes of her wrapped in my embrace, her breathing levels out, and she’s asleep. I follow suit a couple of minutes later, and the dirty dishes are a distant memory to me.
Chapter Sixteen
Jewel
When my eyes adjust to the morning light streaming between the blinds, I stretch, and I don’t sense Maddox in bed next to me. I push off the mattress and throw my hands over my head.
I grab my bra, taking my tank off, and covering the girls, in case someone else is in the house besides Maddox. I pop my head into the bathroom, and he has a toothbrush out for me. After brushing my pearly whites, I make my way down to the smell of coffee. Thank goodness. It’s certainly something I need this morning.
Maddox sits in the same seat I’d found him in yesterday, and this time, he’s shirtless with his pajama pants slung low on his hips. His obliques are something chiseled by the Lord above as they disappear into the beautiful V all women love.
“Morning, precious.” He stands, holding me tight to him. “I hated leaving you, but I had some stuff I needed to get done this morning.”
He makes his way over to his spot, bringing me with him, and he sets me on his lap. “How’d you sleep?”
“Goodness gracious, you have the most comfortable bed.”
“That I do.” Something about Maddox’s arrogance is a turn-on, and it causes him to be more desirable. “But more so, I’m so glad you slept well, precious.” Oh, I could get used to waking up like this.
“When are you leaving for work?” I ask.
“I’m not. I want to get you settled.” He begins, and when I think my heart can’t take anymore of this man, he surprises me with more of his sweetness.
“Thank you, Sir. If it hadn’t been for you, I’d be lost.”
He drops a kiss on my forehead. “The same goes for me when it comes to you, precious.”
There’s a knock on the door, and he’s all grins and smiles as he takes my hand. On his way to it, he pulls a sweatshirt over his head.
“I have something for you that you’ll need. And I don’t want you to make a big deal about this, but I’ll always make sure you have what is necessary. Plus, I have a feeling you’ve never been spoiled,” he begins, his features as neutral as I’ve ever seen.
He opens the door to a man holding a pair of keys along with a clipboard. Maddox takes it, signing it quickly. Then the stranger walks down the little sidewalk from the front door and gets into a car with another person. In front of me is a silver vehicle that looks just like Tori’s Prius.
I search his face, and with each second I stare at his beautiful features, it soon gives way to a small smile. “You bought me a car?”
“Precious”—his voice is a little harsh—“I’ve asked you not to make a big deal about this.”
I throw my hands around his neck. “Thank you, Sir, and thank you for taking care of me.”
His smile broadens, and if I were to wager a guess, I’d say he likes providing for me even more than I appreciate his gift.
The morning goes by as breakfast is delivered, and I gorge myself on bagels, muffins, and coffee. “How about you get in the shower?” Maddox suggests. “And we’ll chat afterward.”
I stand from the dining room kitchen and start to clear the dishes. He doesn’t redirect me, and I take pride in caring for his needs. “I’ll run out and grab something out of your trunk to change into.”
“No, please go upstairs,” he demands.
And with a small smile, I simply say, “Yes, Sir.”
I don’t know what this means, but I follow his command without question. This seems to please him when he hooks me by the waist. “Thank you for doing what I asked of you, precious.”
“Yes, Sir,” I begin. “Whatever pleases you.”
He drops another kiss on my forehead. I love when he does this, so much! “You please me very much, precious. I’ll see you after your shower.” I twist my body around, making my way upstairs to his bedroom without a worry in my mind about what I’ll change into when I finish.
Why am I not surprised? The towel is around my body when my eyes fall onto a pair
