“Here is what’s going to happen,” he continues, but his voice turns to a deep timbre, one like Chad has just used on me, and Anton’s words are harsh. “Number one—you get your head out of your rear and become her Dom. Number two—you take a break from the club to get your head screwed on straight. Number three—we help Danner find another club, one where they are happy.” His body pivots around to Chadwick, who is suddenly behind him.
He sidesteps Anton as Jared stands next to Chad. He takes a long, deep breath, turning to Jared as he gives him a hard stare and pins his gaze back at me.
“Jared is here to remind me that not long ago, I, too, made some unwise decisions when it came to my kitten. I wanted to drag you out of the club tonight and kick your ass, but I get it.” He scrubs the scruff on his chin, making an almost painful wincing sound. “Hell, I can’t imagine my life without Eve. When you love someone, you can’t think straight.” He moves around the room to stand face-to-face with me. “Look, it may sound odd. You’ve been with this girl what, once or maybe twice? But you’ve dodged her on many occasions, and that takes some willpower. For a girl to get you jumbled up, of all the people I know, it tells me that if you let her go, it’ll be the biggest fucking mistake of your life.”
Jared stands, walking my way as he buttons his suit jacket. “Kira came out of left field for me, and I was scared, too. And maybe one day, I’ll share my story about the desperation I felt when I was away from her, and how we healed one another. But if I didn’t have her or continue to fight for her every day, I’d be a broken man.”
A deep chuckle leaves Chadwick’s lips. “Fuck, we’re a bunch of pussies for our women, aren’t we?” It’s more a statement, one he’s okay with. “I need to know your decision tomorrow.” He leaves with Jared on his heels, and before I know it, Anton has left, too, and I’m alone with all my fucking thoughts.
The club is still open, but I don’t punish myself by returning to the main stage. I stumble up the stairs to the owners’ lounge and the private apartments. There’s no way I want to drive home tonight, not in the least, so my little space above the bar will have to do. Ascending the stairs, all the apartment doors are closed. Cord and Shiloh and Jared and Kira are in the two-bedroom apartment over my office space. Gio and his two girls are in the studio apartment, and Eve and Chadwick are alone in the other two-bedroom apartment. I have no idea where Greer is, but he’s probably downstairs in one of the private rooms. Hell, for all I know, he’s in my one-bedroom apartment, and I will have to be relocated to the couch.
I’m surprised to see anyone awake, but Greer lies on the long couch in the center of the room, in the middle of both sets of apartments, in his reading glasses, with a book only covering his face from the nose down.
“I was wondering where you were going to sleep tonight and hoped like fuck you had not contaminated my apartment,” I tease.
He points at Chadwick’s apartment. “Nah, I’ve been taking up the second bedroom in there, but I have to wait until they go to bed. They’re sort of loud when they fuck.” Greer, out of all of us, is the most crude.
“Yeah, they are.” I sit back in the chair across from the couch, when he puts down his book, rearranging his long ass body into a sitting position.
“I heard it was a tough night for you, my friend.”
I shrug. He knows the answer; he’s just trying to get more information from me. “Yeah, I fucked up. I went out to the club with the intention of messing with her. What kind of man am I?”
He leans forward, placing his elbows on his knees in the same position as Chadwick from earlier. “You’re human, and a man who was hurt in the worst way by a woman.”
