Cocky Notes - Leesa Bow Page 0,79

every detail.”

Reef never received a positive result for his tests, so it’s unlikely we’ll have children. I’m okay with it as I have him. And we both agreed to adoption if we change our minds. Something I’m not pushing for now as we have an adventure awaiting us. Then, we’ll reassess. The best part is we can have fun trying, and Reef is not known to give up on anything. Including me. I smile thinking of how far we have come.

First, Reef wants to travel the world, find remote exotic places for us to explore, only when I finish my social welfare degree. He wants to absorb other cultures and experience life—together.

We’ll fly back home and see our families in between countries, for he knows how much I’ll miss Dad. Only now I’m reassured by Bernadette looking out for him, and he couldn’t have picked a more loving wife.

“Re-ef,” I scream along with ninety thousand other fans when he explodes from the pack with the ball firmly in his hands and sprints along the boundary line. One bounce, two, then he plants the ball on his boot and kicks it toward the goal. Dakota leaps from within the goal square, fully recovered from his ACL reconstruction and takes the mark.

The stadium booms with applause. Fans are out of their seats cheering, knowing the siren will sound any second, and this will possibly be the final goal of the game. I smile because I’ve gotten to know Dakota since Reef was traded to the same team as him, and they are playing together for the first time since high school. They’ll be premiership players together.

The siren sounds before Dakota kicks the ball. So, he lines up in front of the goal and sends the ball sailing through the centre of the white goalposts. I scream along with everyone else.

“C’mon,” Chance says, grabbing my hand. “I’ll take you to the fence so he can see you.”

Chance leads me down the stairs, and the security guard allows us on the oval inside the gate. Reef runs over to his teammates, all in a massive pile-up of players as they celebrate the win. The club song sounds over the speakers, and the players are ushered to the centre of the grass for a presentation. While they wait for a makeshift stage to be trolleyed onto the field, some players walk over to the fence and hug their families. Reef is called away to give an interview with a reporter, and I’m nervous he won’t see me.

The moment he finishes, Chance waves out and calls his name.

Reef jogs toward us with the biggest smile on his face and drags us both into a bear hug. We laugh with him as his sweat is smeared over my face and arms.

“Congrats, mate.” Chance pats his back.

“I’m so proud of you.” I kiss him on the cheek.

Reef releases Chance and takes me in his arms, kissing me hard.

“You did it,” I say when we come up for air.

“No, we did it,” Reef emphasises. “You and me.”

“Together,” I say whole-heartedly.

He leans his forehead against mine. “Forever.”

BLURB

I watched him play football from the stands and saw the cocky persona he puts on for the crowd.

He's my BF's cousin and over the years noticed me grow into a woman.

One night I succumbed to his charm. Took the risk because it was the night before my flight to travel the world. I would be gone for two years, thought it would mean nothing.

Stupidly, I almost gave him my heart.

In a moment of panic, I fled and tried to forget him.

Now I'm back and ready to move on with my life.

Running into Hunter Stone on my first night out wasn't part of the plan.

His eyes tell me he hasn't forgotten.

My gut tells me I'm going to regret it...

Winning the Player is a standalone read and Book 1 of The Bay Series.

First and foremost, to Vi Keeland, Penelope Ward, and the Cocky Hero World team. I’m so thankful and honoured to be selected as an author to be part of your world, and to share my story including Chance from Cocky Bastard.

To my husband, Lynden, thank you for your encouragement, love, and support of my writing journey. You are my rock.

To my four beautiful daughters, Jamie-Lee, Shauni, Ashleigh, and Demi, who helped with character names, plot, and provided constant inspiration. To my wonderful parents, Pam and Vic, and my sister, Vickie, and her family for believing in me and helping in any way possible.

A big shout-out to my friends and biggest fans: Mum, Deanne and Helen, Dayna, and Alison for believing in me from the day I decided to give authoring a shot.

To Charli, for reading my book in its raw form, and the feedback, while tolerating my insecurities. I’m so grateful to you for believing in me! I thank you from the bottom of my heart as your words of praise mean so much.

To Kim at Blogging for the Love of Authors. Thank you for your encouragement, words of wisdom, and late-night chats despite the time difference between our countries. And for helping me choose the right cover.

To Kellie and Charli at Beyond the Pages, thank you for stopping by my table at a book signing over a year ago! We have developed a friendship and an author-reader-blogger relationship I value. And to Tarsh for reading my books and loving sport as much as I do.

My appreciation extends to my Facebook reader group, Leesa’s Lovelies, and all the blogging community for helping to get my book out to the world. You all make the book world a much better place, especially Blogging for the Love of Authors and Their Books, Beyond the Pages, and Give Me Books.

To my author friends, who I’ve chatted while writing this book—Maggie Mundy, K E Osborn, Nina Levine, Emma James, Beth Prentice, Jodi Perry, Kat T. Masen, Sierra Hill, Kendall Talbot, and Tania Joyce. I can’t express enough gratitude for all your advice and inspiration. To all the authors whom I’ve met at signings and meet-ups, you are my writing family, and I love you all.

To Kaylene Osborn at Swish Design and Editing. Thank you for all your expertise, answering endless questions, and making my book shine. Most of all for calming me when I message or call in a state of panic. You are my rock, and I love you!

To Najla at Najla Qamber Designs, thank you for my beautiful cover. Your brilliance amazes me with every new cover, and I look forward to working with you on future books.

To Lauren Clarke at Creating Ink, I am so happy we got to work together. You moulded my story into a piece of art, and I’m truly thankful.

A special thank you to my girlfriend, Sue Bock, for writing the poems to include in my story. I’m delighted I could share your words with readers.

Finally, to my daughter, Demi, for eagerly reading chapter by chapter while I write. You are my number one fan, and this book is for you!
