Leaving aside the visceral sexuality of the moment, there was something very intimate about it. Jax threw his arms around the three of us and the four-way hug felt almost magical. We didn’t speak, but we didn’t have to. Holding one another was enough. And when my lovers finally slid out of me, I didn’t feel empty, because their true selves – the true essence of what they were – lingered inside me, in more than one way. We collapsed together on the pillows, spent but content. I ended up leaning against Jax’s chest, with Reid and Thorn on my other side. Reid’s hand curled protectively around my belly.

To this day, I had no idea who the biological father of our pups actually was, and I would never find out. It didn’t matter, not to them, and not to us.

Jax petted my hair and kissed my forehead. “Sleep, Isabel.”

“You’re safe,” Reid added.

“We’ll be right here when you wake up,” Thorn finished.

I believed them, and so, I closed my eyes and obeyed. As I drifted into slumber, no nightmares followed me. There was only the certainty that I truly was where I belonged, that I had a family and a pack.

“A wolf soul,” Mama Rose had said. Maybe she was right or maybe she was wrong, but as a wolf and as a human, I loved the Woodward brothers. Our lives might have not been perfect, and neither our relationship, but what we did have was precious and I’d treasure it forever.
