Broken River - Ruby Shae Page 0,29

close to it, and he knew that had a lot to do with Elle. He was convinced his friend sent her to him for a reason, but it was more than that. It was her, and the way she was with him, and he was going to do everything in his power to convince her to stay with him forever.

He wet a washcloth with warm water, and then he crawled back on the bed and gently wiped away the evidence of their lovemaking from her pussy and thighs. She jolted at the first swipe of the cloth, but after that she didn’t move, and he completed the job quickly.

After he wiped his dick, he threw the washcloth in the sink and then climbed back into the bed.

Elle turned toward him in her sleep, as if sensing his presence, and pressed her front against his, burying her head against his chest. He wrapped his arms around her and closed his eyes.

Technically, it was morning. He had projects to finish, and he was sure Elle wanted to get some baking done down at the main house, but he wasn’t moving. Not yet. Not until Elle woke him and told him they had to get up, because right now, with his girl in his arms…there was no other place he wanted to be.

Elle smiled at the two bears barreling down the hill, and scooted to the side of the road. It wasn’t that she was afraid they would hurt her—she knew they wouldn’t—it was that she didn’t want them to have to slow down because she was in the way.

They slowed anyway, but only marginally, and they both flashed her a huge toothy grin before continuing their race down the hill. She had already been laughing at their antics, but she smiled again and continued her trek up the hill toward her and Liam’s cabin.

She had been baking in the main house earlier that day, and then she had spent a couple hours watching the store and talking with Lacey while the other woman watched the front desk. The guys, including Liam, had had an errand to run, and they’d been gone most of the day.

When she reached the top of the hill, she immediately noticed her bear sitting on his haunches near the fire pit. Every time she saw the animal, he reminded her more and more of Liam, and today was no different. He watching her every move with the same intense stare Liam would focus on her when he thought she wasn’t paying attention. It didn’t bother her when Liam did it—she liked his intensity—and it didn’t bother her when the bear did it either…even though he often looked like he wanted to gobble her up.

She let out a tiny giggle at the image that came to mind because it wasn’t of the bear eating her, but eating her out. That wasn’t something she would share with anyone else, mostly because it sounded crazy, but the bear reminded her more of Liam than of a wild animal.

In fact, it had been a little over a week since their first mind-blowing lovemaking session, and not only had she been spending more time with Liam, but she had seen the bear—her bear—nearly every day. During their visits, she spent a lot of time studying him, and the similarities were too many to be considered mere coincidences.

Honestly, it made sense why her brother had been secretive of his friend, but also why Gavin had sent her here. He had known that she would love Liam with her whole heart, no matter what he was, and that Liam would love her in return. And he did. She knew that deep down in her soul, but she also knew he was hiding something. Either it had something to do with this bear, or she was going crazy.

She didn’t think it was the crazy thing, though.

She had seen the other bears roaming around the property on occasion, and if she watched them closely, she could see the human traits of his siblings in those animals, too. Lacey was easy to spot because she had the lighter coat of all four of the bears, and Lael’s hulky form was slightly smaller than Levi’s. The boys looked similar in color to her own bear, but Liam was the biggest out of the three, and he was more down-to-earth and reserved than the other two animals.

Would he ever tell her his secret? Or what he had been doing when
