start telling me what the actual fuck is happening here,” I grind out.

Hagen lets out a loud boom of laughter, his eyes dancing from each one of us, then lands on the seeress. “Bikka,” he rumbles.

“Did you call us bikkas?” the seeress asks.

“If that means bitch, then yeah, I did.”

Runa mumbles something and together they start to force me to walk beside them, their arms wrapped around my waist as they practically drag my ass out of the holding cell. Hagen marches up toward us, stopping right in front of me. He barks something, then scoops me up in his arms.

“Though, I shouldn’t tell you because of the way you’ve spoken to us,” Runa says.

Her tone is all bristly and she sounds like my mom when she’s all in her feelings and pissed off at me, which I must admit, is kind of refreshing right about now because I really miss my mom. Smiling, I look over at them, thankful that I have them, even if I’m kind of mad at them right now.

“I’m sorry, Runa. Please tell me,” I say sweetly. Hagen grunts, obviously sensing my fake sugary sweetness.

Runa rolls her eyes, following behind us. “You can’t leave because I’ve magically bound you to Aaric. He wanted me to bind you to the land, but knowing how much he enjoys the sea, I couldn’t do that.”

“You’ve done what?” I cry.

Runa’s eyes flicker from their natural color to a black glittery color, the same color that she gave me when she was casting this spell.

“You are bound to Aaric. You cannot leave this world without him going with you.”

Shaking my head, tears fill my eyes again. “No,” I breathe. “No.”

The pain becomes too much, it’s deeper, more intense than ever before and my body can’t handle it. Darkness takes over, it edges around my vision, and I hear Hagen shout as everything begins to fade away and go completely dark.

AARIC

I hear Hagen’s shout as Fiske continues to tell me about his grand idea to go on a raid. I don’t know that I’m ready to leave right now, but I know without a doubt that I cannot let him do anything alone. He is not tactical enough to be in charge of his own raid, he is much too cocky.

Trying to ignore Hagen, I attempt to focus on Fiske. “We do need one more raid before winter. I will lead a party,” I mutter.

“With your new bride in tow?” Fiske asks, arching a brow.

“If I must,” I grunt.

He shakes his head just as Hagen shouts again, this time calling out my name. Lifting my head, I look over my brother’s shoulder and see him standing there, my wife in his grasp, her eyes closed and her body limp in his arms.

“She will not wake.”

Swiftly walking past Fiske, I jerk my chin at Hagen. “Put her in my bed,” I shout as I make my way toward my room.

I ignore the looks of Sylvi and Oili who witnessed me having her taken from that exact bed, naked, just hours ago. I feel as though I am not mentally stable when it comes to Liv. She makes my head feel foggy.

Selfishly, I want to keep her with me always. As the konungr of my people, I cannot afford to be selfish and this woman holds powers. The prophecy states that she will be the most powerful person when it is fulfilled with her sisters at her side.

I don’t know what any of the prophecy means, for me, for her, and especially for my people and my land. I cannot afford to put my entire country in danger. If that means that I must not only bind her to me, but also keep her away from everyone and locked away, then that is what I’ll do.

Opening my bedroom door, I stand to the side while Hagen carries her over to the furs and gently sets her down. “Water and wine, now,” Runa demands.

Turning my head, I yell out Runa’s order. Sylvi is already in front of me with a tray, before I can even get the last word of my demand out. Dipping my chin, I step to the side and allow her entrance.

“Is she okay?” she asks, after setting the tray down on a small table near the bedside.

“I don’t know,” I mutter.

“You’ll tell me why you did what you did this morning?” she asks, though it’s not much of a question as it is a gentle demand.

Sylvi knows that she
