about it. It was nice to be able to tell them apart.

Tag jumped to his feet as Thane and Toven helped me find mine. I giggled. It sounded like I’d lost my feet somewhere and they just found them lying around and gave them back.

Tag glared at me. “What’s wrong with your arm?” His low voice like gravel tumbling in a metal mixer.

I felt my upper lip curl into a snarl before I caught myself. I breathed through my mouth for a couple seconds. My temper could be a fierce and scary thing. And he’d done nothing to me. Not really. In the grand scheme of things, his rubbing at my arm had been nothing.

His eyes flared as he watched me get myself under control. A look of…something entered his gaze. Almost as if he’d seen a part of me he could respect.

“I have a metal allergy.” I kept solid eye contact with him.

He snorted softly. “That’s not an allergic reaction, sweetcheeks. That’s something else.”

I blinked quickly at the term, sweetcheeks. Shook my head. “That’s how my body reacts to metal. That’s all I know about it.”

He reached out for my arm again. This time he lifted his gaze to mine before he touched me.

I nodded and met him halfway.

“She’s a Circle of the Stars druid healer,” Matt said from behind me. “One of the last ones on Earth.”

Chapter 15 – Tagan

I looked over the woman’s shoulder. Raised one eyebrow. “Come again?” He couldn’t have said what I thought he just said.

He repeated it. Word for fucking word.

Damn it. I shook my head. “No. No. There’s no such thing as magic. Not like that anyways.” I looked at my brothers.

They shook their heads slightly.

Well, shit biscuits. Why the hell didn’t you tell me you hadn’t told either of them that we’re magical? I snarled mentally.

And when would this auspicious conversation have taken place exactly? Thane raised a single eyebrow.

Hollyn was staring at me as if she could see into my head. Read my thoughts. Scan my memories. Hear my waking nightmares.

I dropped her hand and stepped back. “You won’t get me to believe in anything like that.”

Hollyn’s mouth twitched up at the corner. “Would you like to make a bet on that?” She lifted her hand out to me again.

I scowled at her. Snagged her smaller hand in mine. “Hit me with your best shot.” My grin was a little savage. “Fire away.”

Her fingers curled around my wrist, her thumb and middle finger not quite meeting. She shot me a cocky grin. “Elektra.”

The faintest buzz lit from her fingers through my wrist. I raised my brows. “I’ve had bigger shocks from static, sweetcheeks.”

Her face fell for a moment before that spark of challenge brightened her pale purple eyes.

It shouldn’t be as sexy as it was. But it was. So fucking sexy.

She shook back her shoulders. Lifted her chin. “Elektra.”

Another jolt sizzled through me. A bit bigger than the first. Still nothing to write home about. “And another one bites the dust.” I pulled on my hand.

Her fingers tightened. A fire lit in her gaze. “ELEKTRA.”

Lightning shot through my system like it was heralding a tornado. Every muscle in my body clenched into painful attention. My bones ground themselves into dust. My head tried to pop off my body.

A triumphant smile lit her lavender gaze making her eyes glow.

“Hollyn,” Thane’s assistant called. “You need to stop.”

She didn’t. If anything, she sent even more through my system. As the power rushed through me, I could feel it poking and prodding deep inside me. Almost as if it were searching for something specific.

“HOLLYN!” Matt yelled as he reached forward.

Forming a snarl with the lips I had left, I called on my brothers to hold him back. She was close. So close to something. Something I’ve needed. Wanted. Ached for all these years.

I looked back into her eyes as I accepted the power she pushed through me. Gone was the fire of determination. It had been replaced by fear. Wild terror slid through her purple eyes as we stared at each other.

Just a little more, please, Hollyn, I called out to her mind.

Her eyes widened into the size of saucers. She shook her head. Tried to escape my touch. Don’t. I could hurt you. I don’t ever want to hurt you. Please. Please, let me go.

I shook my head. I can’t. I need this. I’ve been waiting for this for two decades. Please. I promise you won’t hurt me.

She studied me for long moments
