The Boyfriend Designer - Christopher Harlan Page 0,76

this is giving me inside. Conor wouldn’t know this, and we didn’t really go too far into our past relationships, but I’ve been cheated on—more than once. I used to think it was me and that I was just a bad girlfriend who made all the guys I date run to other women, but then Tori basically shook me and told me it was because I was picking the wrong guys—guys who do that kind of thing.

This time might be even worse than all those others, not only because I literally saw him cheating on me, but because I was falling in love with the big tall alpha with the green eyes, whether he realized it or not. Now I’ll never tell him.

“No explanation required, Mr. Alpha. I saw all that I needed to see. It gave me the message loud and clear. I was right about you, and you were playing me. What else is there?”

“That’s the thing, I was not. . .”

“Shoshana. We need to go.” I hear Sabina’s voice and it’s like an angel in my ears.

Conor looks at Sabina. She’s giving him the eye. The get the fuck away from my girl you jerk eye. I’ve never seen her make a face like that before, but I like it a whole bunch. Good job soul sister.

Conor tries to ignore her. Let’s see how that works out. “Shosh, seriously, just let me. . .”

“Conor, right?” He turns to her with a shocked look on his face.

“Yeah. And you are?”

“The person who’s taking my girl away from this dramatic trash can fire of a situation. My name isn’t important.”

Oh shit. Now I really am wet. Maybe Sabina and I will go back in the room for fifteen minutes.

“I’m sorry, but this doesn’t. . .”

“Concern me?” He nods. “See, that’s the thing Conor. It kind of does, because I need to get her downstairs and ready. It’s kind of my job right now, so you keeping her in the hallway is my business. You can do this later. Or, better yet, not at all—but that’s on you. But right now, she’s going downstairs. Excuse us.”

She takes me by the arm and pulls me away.

Once we’re down the hall and waiting by the elevator, I look at her like she’s the one with the green eyes. “That was. . . amazing.”

“Really? I was getting ready to apologize. I didn’t know if that was my business to do that or not, but you asked me to keep you away from him and you didn’t look happy.”

“I think you need to name your blog something with Alpha in the title, ‘cause that was a boss move right there.”

She smiles. The elevator door opens, and we head downstairs. I feel better already.

Shoshana—Three Hours Later

“I hate him, remember?”

I don’t know what I’m doing here.

I hate him, remember? Avoiding him. Staying away from all things alpha related. Only something in me can’t stay away. There was something in his eyes over the last two days that wasn’t guilt, it was. . . I don’t know exactly, but it has me curious. Most guys who get caught doing what he did would make up some bullshit excuse, but he’s not doing that. I want to know more, but I don’t want to give him too many chances to lie to me or make up excuses.

So what am I doing on my break? Sitting in the back of one of his presentations again, only this time I’m trying to slouch down behind a tall guy and hide my face so he doesn’t see me. Not sure how I’m doing with that one.

After a few minutes of waiting for all the losers—excuse me, I mean ‘fans’—of fill up the black folding seats in this room Conor makes his entrance. Damn he looks good. I hate myself for thinking that, but it’s true. He looks hot. But he always does.

He grabs the mic and starts his presentation. I wonder how many eye rolls this is going to get from me. If I had a pen and paper I’d keep tally as a way of distracting me from all the crap that’s going to come out of his mouth. Jeez, why am I even here? Because, now that I’ve seen him again, I can’t stay away from him. Ughh.

“How are all my alphas doing?”

The crowd yells. Of course they do.

“Good. That’s really good. And let me thank you all for coming here today. You all know how much I appreciate
