“I could move in with you here.” His voice was high and excited, but I caught the hesitation in his cadence.
“Hm, the Vanguard Tower is more than just a stack of apartments though, isn’t it?”
He sighed and nodded, adorably squishing his chin in his hand as he did so. “Yeah. My brothers are my anchor just as much as you are. I guess I don’t know if I could move away from them. Not anytime soon, at least.”
I understood, and I’d certainly never expected anything different. He sighed like it was an impossible puzzle he couldn’t solve and closed his eyes.
“It’s a shorter commute from there anyway.” I tried to hold back the grin but failed.
He flicked his eyes open and stared at me in shock.
“Hunter would love to have me just down the hallway, too. We’d need some strict rules about him not bringing work home. He puts on a relaxed persona but he mulls over cases even more than I do.”
“Are you messing with me?”
“Your apartment feels as much like home as this does.” I shrugged.
He shook his hands out excitedly and bounced, but then suddenly stopped. “Wait. What about my morning chai lattes?”
“I’ll make you one every morning.”
“Okay, fair trade. And what about…this place? I like it here. It’s the only place we get any real privacy.” He sighed and looked up at the ceiling.
