came down on if it ever came to it. For now, he’d told me to keep a close eye on her and to organize with someone from HR to sit with her when we got back to the States.
I hadn’t told her about it yet because I was looking for a way around it. A lecture on appropriate behavior in the workplace wasn’t what she needed. Especially not when she’d simply been standing up for herself. The company would be lucky if she didn’t sue us.
I’d already decided that I’d fix it some other way.
Jefferson was staying on the yacht tonight and Katie had caught a ride back to the hotel with me. We wouldn’t be seeing either of them in the morning, which would give me some time to discuss everything that had happened with her.
Together, I was sure we would come up with a way for her to stay that she would be happy with. I needed to make sure that she was happy and that she stayed because I honestly didn’t know what I’d do if she left.
Just thinking about being without her now made strange things happen to my insides. Everything squeezed and tightened, and a sick feeling shot through my stomach. No, I can’t let that happen. I can’t lose her.
Threading my fingers into her hair, I dipped my head to capture her lips where they’d been working on my neck. Kissing her hard and deep, I held her head to mine and willed myself to stop thinking about losing her.
If I couldn’t stand the thought of it, I didn’t even want to start pondering what the reality would be like. All I knew was that being without her would feel all wrong and that being with her, right now and even in a swimming pool where anyone could walk in on us at any time, felt very fucking right.
Chapter 31
LEAH
Somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew we had to stop. We were in the hotel pool, for crying out loud. There were probably hundreds of rooms in this hotel, a lot of them occupied. All those people, as well as all the hotel staff, had access to this pool.
While there was a certain thrill to the possibility of being discovered, I didn’t quite want to push my luck tonight. If Dane and I ended up getting kicked out of the hotel for getting naked in a public space, I doubted Jefferson would keep either of us on.
Or maybe he’d keep Dane on. The two of them were pretty close, after all. Dane certainly hadn’t seemed worried earlier that there would be any significant blowback on him after my outburst or that it would reflect poorly on him.
I wasn’t nearly as confident in my situation with Jefferson, however. As far as I was concerned, I was already in a precarious position with the old man. One more strike and I was pretty sure I was out.
But with Dane’s mouth on mine and his hands all over me, it was difficult to convince myself to stop. The wine had made me feel warm, tingly, and invincible. Just as invincible as I always felt when I was in Dane’s arms.
It had to be after midnight by now. What are the chances that anyone else is going to come for a swim?
The devilish voice in my head was loud and she seemed so certain. No one else is coming out here. They’re all asleep and those who aren’t are probably already getting it on. They’re just doing it in their rooms and not in the pool.
As long as we kept our clothes on, it wouldn’t be so bad if we got caught anyway. We were only kissing. The hotel staff were sure to have seen far worse.
Winding my arms around Dane’s neck, I pulled him closer when I came to the slightly hazy conclusion that fooling around in the pool was safe. He grinned against my lips when he felt me giving into what I’d started, rolling his hips against mine to let me feel his long, hard length against my center.
“I’m taking it you don’t want to stop, then?” he murmured between kisses, his hands moving down to my hips as he kept me in place.
“Nope, I definitely don’t want to stop,” I replied against his swollen lips. “Let’s just keep it PG, okay? If someone walks in, I’d rather not give them more than their money’s worth.”
