All or nothing (Love in chaos #1) - Missy Johnson Page 0,5

there at the moment. She’s been seeing some guy for a few months now.”

“He’s onto something,” Jax chimes in. “Put a decent profile up with a half-naked photo, and I’m sure you’ll have chicks lining up to marry you.” He pulls out his phone. “Here, I’ll even take a photo for you.”

Sighing, I give in. At this point, I can't see any other option. I get to my feet and take off my shirt while Jake aims his camera at me, trying not to think about how weird this is.

“Nah, the lighting’s all wrong. Stand near the window.” I do as he asks, but he’s still not happy. “Face left. Okay, now pose a little. Give the camera some love.”

“Jax,” I growl.

“What? I’m trying to make you stand out,” he protests.

“I’m a twenty-something on a site full of cougars. Trust me, I’ll stand out.”

He sighs and waves his hand. “Fine, come closer and I'll take a headshot.”

I take a few steps toward him and he wrinkles his nose. “Man, you stink of stale beer, cheap perfume, and sweat. Can you go take a shower or something?”

“They can’t smell me through my profile,” I fire back.

“No, but your stench is affecting my ability to take a decent photo.”

“For fuck’s sake, it’s a fucking photo,” I huff, but I head down to my bedroom.

The moment the hot water hits my face, I feel heaps better, not that I'll admit that to Jax. After a few minutes of breathing in the steam, my headache is all but gone and I'm actually much more awake. I feel like I can think clearly for the first time since I woke up.

Turning off the water, I step out and grab my towel. Just as I secure it around me, a flash of light almost blinds me. Shocked, I look up to see Jax snapping pictures of me.

“Dude, get out of here,” I growl.

He turns his phone around to show me the photo. The lighting is perfect, and the way the water is trickling down over my muscular chest is something I'm sure the ladies are going to love.

Damn, I look good.

“You’re welcome.” He winks at me. “I have to get back to work, but keep me posted on your progress, okay?”

“Sure.”

I finish getting dressed and walk out into the living room to find Mason has left too. I'm relieved because setting up an account and scouring profiles of women old enough to be my mom isn't something I want to do with an audience.

I start off feeling confident, but by late afternoon, I've hit a standstill. The dating site was a good idea and I'm getting loads of attention, but the problem is, every woman I message wants to take things slow. As soon as I suggest meeting, the conversation dries up. After woman number five, I'm about to give up and go try a bar, when a direct message pops up.

I scan her profile. Her pic doesn't show me much, but I can't be too picky. I keep reading. She's thirty-eight and divorced, with a kid. We exchange a few messages. I keep things as simple as possible with nothing too personal, mainly so I can keep track of what I've said. Talking to so many women at once, things quickly blend into one another. The last thing I need is to mess this up because I fucked up on some detail.

Yawning, I glance at the clock. It’s not even ten, but I’m barely able to keep awake, so I decide to turn in for the night. Before I do, I message a few other women on the site, because as promising as this chick sounds, I have less than a week to seal this deal. I need to make sure I cover all my bases.

“Double shot latte, no sugar?” The barista gives me a wide smile as I reach for my cup. “I threw in a free muffin,” she whispers, her eyes sparkling. “Since you’re in here every morning.”

“Thanks,” I murmur, returning her smile. “Maybe I can thank you properly with dinner tomorrow night?”

She bites her lip and holds up her hand, showing her engagement ring.

“I’m not sure my fiancé would like that, sorry.”

“You never know.” Her cheeks go red as I wink at her. “He might be into that.”

I stroll outside, tossing the muffin in the trash.

It was worth a shot.

It’s eight the next morning, and I’m on my way to the office to catch up on what I missed yesterday. Every woman
