nearly convinced me to abandon the task. Her fingers worked me until I felt more ravenous than ever, and I tossed my prosthetic to the side seconds before I climbed over her and sank in.

Gods, this was home. There was nothing better on this earth than having my dick inside of her. Every emotion in my body gave over to excitement of bringing Emma to her peak, the need to dominate her senses and submit to her desires. I smelled her lust, and it was incredibly invigorating, though I forced my thrusts to be long and deep instead of sharp and fast. My body enveloped hers, and her shallow breaths in my ear as they turned to moans sent a thrill rushing through every pore of my being. Her cries grew louder. I became painfully aware that she was mine, and the notion made me go wild.

I began to think about the way I felt within her. I began to unravel, and went faster. Emma’s hands bunched in the fists as I dove into her. Her eyes closed and her face scrunched as she tried to hold on, and failed.

My mind and vision went blank. The love I had for Emma welled up and spilled out of me in a delirious climax. The intense high made my head spin, but I kept thrusting until the end became a spiral, leading me back to reality.

Emma’s hair fanned out against my shoulder as I laid beside her again. “Impressive,” she noted, with a tone of amusement. “Didn’t know you had it in you to drag it out.”

“I can take my time if I wish,” I told her. “It doesn’t always need to be insane.”

“Maybe it’s better this way,” Emma said. “I think I like passionate sex.”

My heart warmed with a bit of hope. I knew we were just having fun and all, but I wanted to be more to her. I knew Emma loved me, and this relationship was secure… but there was still a lot of trust to be regained after everything we went through. Our bond was there, but as of yet, it wasn’t near as strong or as deep as it could be.

But we were working on it. Time was the one thing that could heal all our wounds. I was certain we would get there eventually, but still— any distance from Emma, no matter how minimal, was heartbreaking. It was all I could do to continue to bear it. She still needed her space. I would give her as much as she desired until she decided she was ready for us to be more.

Just then, Emma’s phone rang. She slowly rose from the bed to answer it— I felt a note of satisfaction as I watched her waddle the first few steps.

Emma put the phone to her ear, and someone began speaking immediately. “Odette? Odette, what’s going on?”

I could hear Odette’s panicky voice from across the room, and my gut hollowed. I hurried to put on my clothes and my prosthetic as Emma frowned and said, “We’ll be there as soon as we can, just hold on.”

Emma hung up the phone and scampered to put on her clothes. “Something’s wrong. Odette wants us to get to the city square as fast as we can.”

“Is anyone in danger?” I got off the bed, already fearing the worst.

“She didn’t explain, but she’s very upset. We have to move.” Emma’s hands fumbled as she tried to put on the necklace I bought her. I grabbed it and fastened it for her. It hung securely around her neck as she quickly tucked it underneath her winter coat.

When the necklace was on her, my anxiety ebbed, but only slightly. This was supposed to be a day of rejoicing, yet from what I’d heard over the phone, it might’ve changed into a night of peril. My biggest concern wasn’t if Emma would need to use the magic I’d provided for her in the wolven necklace.

It was if there would be enough magic in that sapphire to stop whatever else we had to face.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Emma

My heart was filled with so much fear as I rode Ethan back to the city square. By Odette’s tearful, worried voice, I expected half of Dolinska to be on fire by the time we got there. I waited to hear the screams, see the blood, but I was met with neither. All I heard was Christmas music, and all I saw was smiling faces all around, families and friends waiting
