After Us (Next Generation #6) - J.M. Walker Page 0,83

times he claimed Brynn as his, which she was in fact, it still did funny things to my belly. If my ovaries could explode, I was sure they would.

After I cleaned myself up, I met both Jaron and Brynn by the front door. He had dressed her in a red sweat outfit that said ‘Daddy’s Girl’ in light blue on the front of the sweatshirt.

“Hi, baby girl.” I kissed her cheek, pulling her from Jaron’s arms so he could get his shoes on. “Did you sleep well?”

She leaned her head against my shoulder, letting out a hard sigh and sucking on her soother.

I laughed. “That hard?”

“I think she was dreaming when I woke her up,” Jaron said, a frown settling between his brows.

“Really?” I ran my hand down her back. “I don’t think babies can actually dream. I’m not sure though. Google says different things.”

“Well…” Jaron came up to us and petted his hand over her head. “Whatever it was, she didn’t look happy about it and I want to kick the ass of whatever it was that was bothering her.”

“Maybe she just slept really hard.” I kissed her forehead, inhaling the fresh scent of her soft skin. “She could be grumpy that you woke her up.”

“Maybe.” Jaron kissed my temple. “Either way, I still don’t like it.”

I laughed. “She’s not a morning person, just like her mama.”

He smirked. “You’re a morning person when you wake up to my face between your legs.”

My body burned. “That’s different.”

A deep laugh rumbled through him. “Is it now?”

“Yes.” I walked past him and left the house.

“How?” He locked up before following us to my car.

“Because I can’t think of how tired I am when you have your tongue shoved deep inside me,” I threw at him, making my way to the vehicle.

He groaned. “You say the sweetest things.”

I laughed, putting Brynn in her car seat.

Jaron sat in the driver’s seat, glancing back at us.

The hairs on my neck tingled but when I looked at him, he didn’t say anything. “What?”

“Just thinking how good you are with her.”

“She’s an easy baby. I lucked out I guess.” Joining Jaron in the front, a contented sigh left me when he placed his hand on my inner thigh. I covered it with my own, brushing my thumb back and forth over a small scar in between his thumb and forefinger. “What happened here?” I asked, noticing the slightly raised jagged flesh that I hadn’t seen before.

“A fucker bit me in jail.”

My eyes widened, my head whipping around. “Really?”

Jaron nodded. “He was crazy as fuck and completely unstable. I had to get a whole bunch of tests done after to make sure I didn’t catch anything from him. I’ve been hit, bones broken and all that shit, but being bitten almost hurt more.”

“Wow.” I ran my thumb over the light pink flesh. “What happened to him?”

Jaron glanced at me quickly before looking out at the road ahead of us. “I stabbed him in the eye with a pen I stole from a guard,” he muttered.

“Oh.” I knew going in that Jaron wouldn’t be like the other guys I knew. Hell, he wasn’t even close to being like Aiden and Ashton. While they could take care of their own when provoked, it was nothing compared to what Jaron could do or had done.

“I told you that I’m not the same man you fell in love with, Piper,” Jaron said, pulling me from my thoughts. He brought my hand up to his mouth and kissed my knuckles. “But I love you and I will prove to you that I am a good guy.”

“You don’t need to prove anything to me, Jaron.” I pulled my hand from his grip and brushed the back of my knuckles down his cheek. “I love you too and I know that what you did was only so you could survive and make it back to us.”

“You are too fucking good to me, baby.” He captured my hand in his and brought it down to his lap. “Way too fucking good.”

“You make it sound like a bad thing.” I turned toward him. “Do you think I’m being too understanding? Is that it? Should I yell and scream or cry that you had to beat up some assholes, stab them, hurt them, kill them, just so other assholes would leave you alone? You have no idea how much I thought of what you had to do or were doing while you were in jail. But I made
